Sad day for Rio Grande Valley in particular and the CHL in general.
Just too much distance between franchises to make a permanent go of it. I think the handwriting is on the wall for Arizona also. CHL is down to ten teams now spread over a third of the continent. The new Denver franchise better be a success or maybe Rapid City will escape to the ECHL too.
Rapid City and Arizona are "islands" in the CHL and in danger of suffering the tsunami of crushing travel costs and other expenses.
Too bad. The CHL was a much better hockey league than I would have thought two years ago. This announcement about Rio Grande Valley just pokes another dagger into the opportunities for players of "veteran" status.
