Boucher to have surgery

From a Komets' press release

The Komets announced Thursday that goaltender Nick Boucher has elected to have surgery on his hip that has a cam impingement.

Boucher, 31, has been a goaltender with the Komets the past five consecutive seasons backstopping Fort Wayne to four league championships.

Boucher's surgery will take place next week at Fort Wayne Orthopedics, Lutheran Health Network.

The veteran netminder is expected to miss at least the first two months of the upcoming 2012-13 regular season.

"This is a surgery Nick has to have," Komet general manager David Franke said.  "We will assess his return when the time is right."

If Bouch was planning on playing this season, why wait until July to have surgery? Isn't that something you would want done right after the season so you had time to heal and rehab? I'm GUESSING this is the end of a great career.

because he felt great at the end of the season and thought the shot he took partway through had solved the problem. He's said all along the worst part of this was the timing because he felt/hoped the problem was fixed by the shot. This isn't a Peyton Manning situation where he absolutely knew he had a problem and still put it off for a six months before having surgery.

Komets have talked to Charlie Effinger, but they are not elaborating on the seriousness of the talks.

I'm happy that his decision has been made.  It's never easy to tell someone that they have to go through surgery.  I think he made the right call, and I hope it is very successful.

Now it is time for the K's to focus on the goaltending position.  I'm sure that they are in talks with a few.

David Franke mentioned a few weeks ago that they are talking to a lot of players, that they have a lot of "irons in the fire".  It is exactly what I meant when I said this upcoming season is a "perfect storm" for them, too,  as well as last years' players.

For example.  Cohn has reported that the Komets are talking to Wichita's Thomas Beauregard ( brother of former Komet David-Alexandre Beauregard).

I'm also glad Bouch will finally have this taken care of. I wish him well on not only the surgery but also his recovery.

Best of luck Nick. You can handle this. Your health is the most important thing to all Komet fans. Just make sure when and if you came back you are 100% ready, both mentally and physically! We will keep you in our prayers for sure.

As in everyday life there is never a good time to get injured or fall ill.

I have confidence that the team will find a quality individual to put in goal while Nick recovers from his operation.    The K's seem to have a knack for finding excellent goaltending, I don't anticipate that changing anytime soon.

Regardless of whether he is able to continue his career or not, this is something he can't delay any longer.

Best wishes to Nick for a successful operation and a speedy recovery.
