Tailing the Komets

Thomas negotiating with Pensacola

Leo Thomas is considering whether to become Gary Graham's captain and assistant coach with Pensacola of the SPHL. He's played the last four years with the Komets, earning three championship rings, scoring 86 goals and 163 points in 236 games. The sides are getting close, but the final paperwork has not been signed yet. An announcement could come later this week.

Great move by both sides if it comes true. This is the perfect set up for Gary and for Leo.

The highlight of Thomas's Fort Wayne career? He was always very good in the playoffs in whatever role Al Sims gave him, but I'd have to say his best performance came in 2008-09 when the Komets signed him from Bloomington and he immediately came in and provided critical offense when the Komets were struggling to score after Mathieu Curadeau got hurt. He was a lifesaver that season.

Only problem for Gary is that Leo only plays with any effort in the post season. IMO.

That is an absolute flat out lie.  Were you there in Dayton in January when Leo took a slapshot right off the thigh on a penalty kill?  Cause giving your body up on powerplays in January totally makes you a lazy player.

"flat out lie"........really?

Talk on here has been about Thomas' tendancy to take shifts or even games of during the regular season for the past 3 seasons....

This is a good move for Leo....I would give him the assistant position; but would hold off on the captain designation....

I know that this is a great move for Leo because of the talent. I believe he will do great in Pensacola and the player-assistant coaching job will be great for him. I also believe that Leo has done a great in Fort Wayne despite what other people think. He obviously has talent and plays a good game if he has won three championships in the last 4 years. I miss watching him play and I will still be a fan of his and still wear all of his stuff.

A good move for Leo to get started on the transition toward coaching. Hope it works out well for him.
