Bingham steps down in Elmira

From a Jackals' press release

The Elmira Jackals announced today that Pat Bingham has resigned as head coach of the team. A search is underway for the team's tenth head coach.

"Pat made this decision solely on what was best for his family. An opportunity outside of professional hockey presented itself and he took it. While unfortunate that Pat won't be coaching the Jackals this season, we wish him, his wife, and his son the best," said Jackals general manager Matt Hufnagel.

"I have worked diligently this entire off-season to recruit and sign a very strong returning core group of players and free agents. A very talented team is near fully assembled, and my resignation should have minimal impact on the organization," Bingham said.

Bingham led the Jackals to a 45-22-5 record in the 2011-12 season and captured the Eastern Conference regular season title.

Michael Franke once told me that Bingham was a tremendous recruiter.  He put together a fine Komets team a few years ago.  I enjoyed watching his Komets and found it refreshing after watching the Euro style that Puhalski was enamored with.

I hope everything goes well for him.  I can't help wondering if the sketchy situation in Elmira didn't play a role in his decision.

I can't help but think that the mess with Elmira and the lawsiuts flying around had a lot to do with Bingham's resignation.  Maybe he just got tired of the lack of stability in most minor leagues.

It should make us all thankful of the management of both the Komets and the Memorial Coliseum.  I know we all don't agree with everything that is done by both entities, but the one thing we know is that both will continue in business. That means a lot.   Just ask the fans of other franchises that have gone dark.
