Auger preliminary report

Is a strained MCL. He was hit with a legal hip check by Evansville's Aaron Gens in the first period.

legal my butt! I agree, some what!  If your gonna call it 1 way call it the other!  If that wasn't a penalty, then there were some border line hits all night, including other hip checks

That was a clipping penalty...  Look up the rule. Primary point of contact was the knee...  Hope they send the tape in on that one...was as dirty as it gets....

Actually, not one person in the press box including team management thought it was an illegal hit. Maybe the coach thought differently, but he didn't say anything either.

Look up the Clipping penalty and then watch the replay.... then tell me if you think it was a "clean" hit...  Primary point of contact was the knee....

Rule 44 - Clipping


1 Clipping

- Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent.

A player may not deliver a check in a "clipping" manner, nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent’s knees.

An illegal "low hit" is a check that is delivered by a player or goalkeeper who may or may not have both skates on the ice, with his sole intent to check the opponent in the area of his knees. A player or goalkeeper may not lower his body position to deliver a check to an opponent’s knees.


Minor Penalty

- A player who commits these fouls will be assessed a minor penalty for "clipping."


Major Penalty - If an injury occurs as a result of this "clipping" check, the player must be assessed a major penalty (see 44.5
