Tailing the Komets

Now it's 4-0

Komets are not getting to the Kalamazoo net, settling for long shots and blowing defensive plays in their own end. Give the KWings credit for playing a perfect, patient road game. Komets will be glad when this one is over.

Something I noticed from Kalamazoo versus komets. Speed is one of the main things kzoo is way faster. Second almost every shot they make is through multiple bodies making the goaltender blind. Those have been been the main keys. Plus Effinger hasn't looked to impressive but the defense has let players slate by them

I couldn't blame Charlie much. First three goals were off his defenseman and the fourth got picked off th d-man's stick 10 feet from the goal. Offense was even worse.

Not enough speed, poor passing and very little intensity = 4-1 loss.

After the first onslaught of shots, the Komets seemed to be playing on their heels the rest of the game.  The Wings looked like a team that's been together for awhile.  Their passing was incredible.

Defensively, the Komets have a lot of work to do.  Everyone knew that coming into last night.  I thought Henley played well, minus the bad penalty in the first, and some stickwork in the 2nd.  Butler's block shot in the first is that of kings.  I think I'm going to really like that guy.

Can't give up 2.5x's more shots and expect to be competitive night in and night out.  Pokey Reddick couldn't have won that game for the K's.  It's only one game, and we've all seen this story before.  It's going to take time to adjust to the new style of the league.  It's to bad we aren't in the Western conference.  All of their teams locked in playoff spots yesterday!!!

Does Brandon Marino wearing 13 have anything to do with Dan Marino?

I don't know if Kzoo was that much faster but it seemed they were always moving and the Komets stood around too much waiting for the play to happen instead of dictating play. It also seemed to me that Kzoo looked bigger at most areas. Smith, Marino and Giosa looked really small compared to most of the Wings. I think Sims and Chaulk have their work cutout for them. It did seem that Kzoo had been together for awhile and that the Komets have so many new players who looked like this was the first time together. I think though after the first game jitters they will do better tonight and win in Evansville. I'm also all for forfeiting the first game altogether in the future because this was third straight home opening game the Komets have gotten scortched.
