Opening Arguments

Broken any rules today? Sure?

Actually, the real surprise here is that the number is so low:

It’s Friday morning, and so far today, the Obama administration has posted 165 new regulations and notifications on its reguations.gov website.

In the past 90 days, it has posted 6,125 regulations and notices – an average of 68 a day.

The website allows visitors to find and comment on proposed regulations and related documents published by the U.S. federal government. "Help improve Federal regulations by submitting your comments," the website says.

Swell. We get to "improve" the regulations by "submitting our comments." How's that working out for you? Remember when we were a nation governed by laws duly enacted by Congress after informed debate watched closely by the public? Me neither.

Which is to say, I don't mean this to be a partisan swipe. Rule by faceless bureaucrats issuing edicts in the middle of the night has been business as usual at least all of my adult lifetime. It's just that, as in so many other areas, the Obama administration seems to find the worst practices and accelerate them more than we ever thought possible.
