Tailing the Komets

Back at practice

Komets center Brett Smith returned to practice today after missing Friday's game with a sore groin. He'll take the spot in the lineup of Kaleigh Schrock who has to sit out this Friday's game because of an automatic suspension. Schrock received an instigation penalty in the last five minutes of last Friday's game.

Hope schrock sits out all three games because he is not helping the team this way...

Probably not Janice. Some fans will never realize the intangible things some players do. For the most part of the season he's defended against the opposing teams top line. And done a good job at shutting them down. So he's in a drought. Every player goes through them.

I tend to agree with Smith11.  Suspended for the first game anyway.  Maybe it would wake him up to be left here in Fort Wayne.

I don't have any idea how many profeesional games Schrock has played.  It has to be getting near the "veteran" mark.  If he would pass that mark this year, does anyone actually believe the K's would hold one of their four spots for him?  Be honest with yourself.

I honestly wish that Schrock would break out of this slump.  Others are having below standard years also.  It's just hard to ignore a winger who has no goals and just one assist this deep in the season.

The Komets are skating in quicksand and don't need anything or anyone to drag them down any faster.

It really bothers me when people show their butts on the blogs because they do not have all the information. People would not be saying one word if Schrock had 10 goals right now! How many times in the 2nd game in Gwinnett was our goalie roughed up...and without penalties called? Im not exactly sure why Henley was jumped either...and again, no calls made! Sometimes a player like schrock says enough is enough. Period! I realize winning the Hockey game is the most important thing but how can you win games when all of your players are being taken out because of dirty plays and our guys are the ones always in the box! Schrock has helped this team win championships, not by scoring goals but by preventing goals by the opposing team! Let's all start harping on a center that can't win his faceoffs or the center who can score goals but not for the right team. Slumps come for everyone..I get that! But some people are acting like hes the worst player on the ice.

How long do you allow a player to slump before you need to make roster moves? I don't care the player is, 1/4 of the season is more than long enough. Even if he's slumping in the scoring department, there's the little things he can do to help his team like hitting and agitating which he has forgotten how to do. This isn't the IHL2, you can't have players on the ice simply because of their name if you want to win.

And some show theirs by seeing nothing wrong with their team when there are obviously several things that are....

That's one of the problems about a town/team connection like Fort Wayne. Some fans eat up the player access and think they're best friends with X player and they can do no wrong. Other fans get their favorite players who can do no wrong. The player/fan relationship CAN be dangerous in a situation like Shrock where no matter how awful he could be doing, there will be the fans who want him on the ice regardless, because of his name. Loyalty to a fault, if you will. This is a business, the ultimate goal is to win. To win you put the best team possible on the ice, not fan favorites of years past. That was the IHL2.

It's not all rainbows and unicorns and no, you can't wait until after Christmas in a league like the ECHL.

I could give 2 s***s less if Shrock was from Fort Worth. I've watched him play the last 4 years, I know what he's done and what he is capable of. He's local, an he's prolly not as expensive as some other guys.

There's no way they leave a healthy Shrock in Fort Wayne for 3 games in Orlando. Even if he doesn't play.

If Shrock hits Vet status this year, no I don't think he'll be on this team next year.

JR1, not saying there's nothing wrong with my team. It's my opinion that LKS is not the problem. This teams problem is a youthful inexperienced defense. Why would you trade a defensive forward, whose assignment for the last year has been to play against and shut down every teams top team? If our defense was better, the group of forwards we currently have would be great. However a lot of the forwards have to play more defensively, which I think hurts their offensive game.

I could be completely wrong. It's happened before.

I think if it were all about defensive responsibility, the Rizk/Thorne/Schrock line would never have gotten split up or made to sit any games...  Since they have been split up, it speaks to the fact that you cannot be one dimensional in this league and expect to survive...  I could care less if Schrock scored another point this season IF maintained his good defensive play and he went back to the pesky, agitating, hitting machine he was in the past...

Hockey91Fan... With that line of thinking should the Komets sign Merv Dubchak since he's scored 72 goals in a season so that's what he's capable of? What Schrock has done in the past, in different leagues, is irrelevant. In sports it's all about what have you done for me lately. With each step up in leagues, Schrock has taken a step down.

No changes are required. We will win this league just like every league we have been in. We proved we can play with Gwinnett. We will take 5 of 6 points from Orlando the flub up the next few weeks make the playoffs and beat Vegas in the finals in sin city. Just like every year folks, you heard it here first.

Nah. It took lots of brains. Orlando has had a very tough schedule and a lot of 1 goal decisions. They could be the best team in the east. They should have took it to us in their own barn! With no doom and gloom this week the blog will be quiet. The panic button has been put away for a few days!!!

Not to worry though, we'll have another small skid shortly and everyone xan panic and demand drastic changes and scream for a higher league ThEN boom, were in the playoffs.

Make the playoffs as healthy as possible and if we are lucky we get to fly to Alaska for the playoffs and I will stay with my friend Stan for free. Book those plane ticjets early, whats in your wallet.
