Tailing the Komets

It's deuces wild

It's 2-2 after two periods as once again the Komets can help themselves by staying out of the penalty box. They controlled the rest of the period except when someone was taking a penalty and they let Gwinnett regain the momentum.

Well, we had 1 penalty the whole game.  Not too bad.

OK, just got home and here is my honest opinion of the game tonight.  The first period may have been the best first perod of the year. The team skated hard, passed the puck well,  scored two goals.

The second period was OK but it seems (have you noticed) that the second period is usually a weak period for the K's.  The Gladiators kind of caught up with the K's because of a solid effort and some ill timed power plays.

The third period was closer to the first in evaluating the game.  The Komets played well, stayed out of the penalty box and managed to keep an inspired Gwinnett team off the scoreboard.

Beauregard with two goals, Elkins and Schrock with one each.  The last two were through some terrific efforts. Cousineau played well and for the most part the defense did also.  A pretty good effort from the entire team.  The Norfolk guys looked very good and I must mention that Caputi had three assists.

All in all, a very inspired team on the ice tonight.  This team, tonight, looked as if they can make some noise if allowed to play together for awhile.  Tough games coming up this weekend  but it looked as though there was some new life in the zkomets.

Well said before the 3 Norfolk guys played a huge role in tonights game they accounted for 3 K's goals and the GW and having Schaus on the Blueline was a noticable difference.  The 3rd line dominated tonight.  Those players are difference makers and hopefully they can continue to be.  Nothing like Chuckitt throwing a little fuel on the fire or in hockey terms the old "Face Wash"

So I guess it's open season for name calling right?

I'll wait for your response Blake before I post anything else because in my book, what's good for the goose it good enough for the gander....

Had all kinds of good things to say; but I may have to lash out...  I'm getting tired of debating, discussing, or arguing my points or opinions without direct name calling....

I can't believe I am doing this but I have to defend Brent Henley on one point. The penalty that was being called on him that resulted in Gwinett's second goal should not have been a penalty, IMO. From my seat Brent was coming toward me and it looked like he just finished his check. The other player was much smaller than Brent and he went down. Certainly not a tripping call. At most it could have been called roughing but from my perspective it was a good hard clean hit. The referee was behind Brent on the play so it most certainly looked different to him. Still I think it was a boarder-line call at best.

Okay, that said I think that may have been the only good hit I've seen Henley throw all season. A guy as big as he is should have opposing forwards looking over their shoulder to see where he is when they go into the corners.  I understand playing positional defense but Henley seems to go out of his way to avoid hitting other players. There is no reason he should be backing into the zone as much as he does and let oppoents walk right in with him.

The same thing can be said for most of the team. It seems there is a tremendous lack of physical play by the Komets this year and it is hurting them. And when I say physical play I don't mean crushing someone into the boards or hip checking them into oblivion at center ice. I mean finishing your checks and putting a body on the opponent. A little bump or push can knock them off stride and cause turnovers. It is one of the little things that all good hockey teams do well.

Glad to see the komets play a all around better game, the addition of the norfolk guys really helps but the defensive play of the team as a whole was much better, the Gladiators are a great team and this weekend with Cin should be another good measuring stick as to this team going forward , Hopefully we will see the same style of play, one thing is the norfolk players particuarlly Schaus play with a chippiness that this team needs, Great for the Offensive help, but the New Years game exposed alot of Defensive problems in our own end which I didnt see last game GO Komets
