I was surprised also of Marino's exclsuion till I realized its only one team( Not two). Looks like the  league tries to get representation from as many teams as possible.  19 spots out of 22 teams( colorado excluded). A younger age  and position factor in also.

From the end of last season, thru last years playoffs and now this honor bestowed, Maggio has represented Fort Wayne extemely well. Lets hope this momentum for him carries thru 2013 as well.

Almost all the guys they picked are rookies or second-year players.

I truly hope Fort Wayne doesn't host another all-star game for many, many years. They are simply not fun for all the work they entail. I've heard, however, that the ECHL All-Star Game might be different because there are so many scouts present.

Blake,    you are right on the money when it comes to effort verses reward.  Most cities this would not work out well.  But ,as you know, Loveland was one of those rare finds to place a minor league hockey team that works out beyond expectations. Great location with a great 5000 seat rink thats sold out every game!  I think the all star game will work out well in that city. Its probaly already sold out.

another reason to get the Denver Cuthroats from the CHL into this league.  Denver and Colorado( Loveland) would make for a huge rivalry. It would benefit both.

Good luck to Maggio...  Maybe he is on this all star team because the Eagles play a chippier style of hockey???  Maybe we will see a little more of an old style type of all star game?....

Too bad for Marino...  Think he deserved this spot.  I think he has done an outstanding job this season while having about 10 different line mates...  Marino has been all hustle all the time and one of the few Komets who have constantly played the body even though he's normally the smallest guy out there...  Marino is an all star this season in my book...

Congrats to Maggio...I like his style of play.

Marino should also have been included...but to say he is on of the only ones out there hitting is to forget about the play night in and night out of Smith and Hegarty...both have been playing hearts out and checking.

The ECHL all star game has always been a crapshoot.  They don't necessarily pick the most deserving players statistically, and never have.  The focus is on youth and showcasing "up and coming" players, of which Marino is not (at least that's the view of the hockey business).  He's 26 yrs old, and like it or not, his window of opportunity has most likely closed on him.  Not to many AHL/NHL teams looking for 26/27 yr old rookies.  Maggio, on the other hand is very young.
