Well, what a difference a day makes.

Great Win by the Komets!!!

Seems maybe the komets asked Norfolk for these 3 players or the parent club wants to see the komets in 1st place after this coming weekend.  If perhaps the komets win both against Cincinnati they would tie them for the lead we will need some help from the teams playing Toledo.   At this point I think the Komets hold their own destiny in a very close Divisional Race.  Should be interesting down the stretch!!!!

What a difference 3 quality players makes. 2 of which have NHL games under their belt.

Really excited about Elkins! Great speed, awesome stick handling. This guy and Caputi will work well together! Also glad Schaus is back on the blue line. Gives us more experience, and he knows what hes doing. Also, I dont think Norfolk really cares what our record is. They just care that their players are getting quality ice time and work on their game. Not that they want to see us in first place. They have their own issues to worry about. But hopfully we continue on from last night into this weekend. Should be interesting. GO Komets!!

It's really what 4 Norfolk players did for us. We can't forget Cousineau. He looked tremendous out there. I could be wrong but was that the first time he has been in for us actually in Fort Wayne? The guy has speed and gets back to position faster than any goaltender I have seen in a long time. Elkins and Caputi walked around everyone last night, puttin T-Beau with then was a very smart choice. Also noticed Elkins is really good on face offs, I haven't seen a clean face off winner like that in some time as well, every face off seemed like a replay. Also sad to see Klotz plays first period and then didn't play all 2nd or 3rd period till we got a power play with 6 minutes to go. I think it is smart to put Klotz in front of the net on power play but you can't sit a guy all game and then throw him on power play and that is it. Klotz can play hockey all around, not the fastest or best, but he does wok his tail off.

Hopefully someone out there can verify this for me.  Maybe I was dreaming but I thought I'd heard or read that Nick Schaus actually asked Norfolk to send him here because he wasn't getting enough playing time in the AHL.  If that is true, then how refreshing is it to have a player who WANTS to play here? If my memory is correct, didn't Syro do something similar a few years ago?

One last thing.  I can't help but admit that when the K's lost their 2-0 lead, a feeling of "here we go again" started to fill inside me.  How refreshing to watch them battle back and take over the game.

Last night could be the game where everyone looks back and says "it all began with the Gwinnett game".  If the team stays together for the rest of the weekend, we'll know a whole bunch more and maybe, just maybe, be a real contender for the division.

Maybe I shouldn't put the tail before the Komet just yet!

My following comment is in no way a slam, dig or criticism of Marco Cousineau. In fact I consider it a compliment.

Watching Marco play last night reminded me of the goalie (Dennis Lemieux) in Slap Shot. I think Marco moves and handles the puck in a similar fashon to the movie character. Now I realize that comparing a actual goalie to a an actor is like comparing a cheetah to a Nerf ball, but I was reminded of the movie several times as I watched the game last night. I was expecting to see the Hanson brothers any any moment... Then I realized I was in Fort Wayne.

An by the way, Marco had the best body check of the night when he went behind the net to play the puck and delivered a great hit on a Gwinett player who was also trying to play the puck. Simply the best hit of the night, IMO.

old time hockey.. pretty much think your previous post and assessment of last nights game was dead on...the one thing i think alot of people and bloggers are not understanding is that my post and some of those like mine being critical of a few of the contracted players is that we dont think they are bad players but only that they need to play for the team and not the name on the back.  setting the win last night aside, i thought they played very well and were dominate at times, which they should be. theres a reason they are contracted to nhl teams to begin with. they need to show it at both ends of the ice , in which they did, and it showed!

and by the way, im not BW'S but he did mention to me he had an authentic komets game worn jockstrap signed for you if your still interested in that autograph!

and.. you really should change your moniker, because people who understand old time hockey.. know it was based on respect..

Pot calling the Kettle black.......  We all remember how "respectful" Kevin Kerr and Jim Playfair were being towards each other when they were swinging their sticks at each others heads...  Or how deeply rooted in respect all those bench clearing brawls were...  Or Andy Beazeau's entire career....  Rivalries and old time hockey go hand in hand and rivalries are built from hatred...

We all know you have that jockstrap hidden under your pillow...  Quit trying to play it off like it's not your keepsake...

Time to fight some fire with fire....

Why was a Jock strap brought up? Why are we still getting digs at each other? I an somewhat new here so maybe that is how you all interact with each other..I like the hockey analysis and different opinions but the getting even and deciding who started what its a little frustrating. not trying to get anyone mad...and maybe I am the oddball here...wouldn't be the first time.

c'mon man.... old time.. i really thought your post was good, but really? i just answered your sarcastic question about the autograph with a sarcastic answer. and you know you were being sarcastic. i just think that disrespecting any player or former player here is a shame.. and just that... disrespectful. and yes jr1 oldtime hockey did have heated rivalries and yes there was hate fueling those games, but 99% of the time respect fueled all of it. this is where guys that have played the game understand certain parts and intricacies of the sport. its no disrespect to those that havent played but some (whether they played or not) just understand a whole lot more than others . ive had several bloggers attack my opinion and me personally because ive stated ive played the game at a decent level and maybe i have a different view of opinion based upon that. great post chuckitt.. you understand.. thanks

Off the post....  You are talking to another former athlete here...  Rivalries ALWAYS start from hatred...always.  You may eventually and begrudgingly start to respect at a later date; but no one just comes out one day and says: "you know what, I really, really respect those guys on that other team, so I'm gonna go out there and try to take their heads off".....  Cheap shots start rivalries...  Are cheap shots respectful?

Respect is the word athletes use to pacify people who have never played any game, ever...

Playing the "I've played" card is just the trump card some try to pull out when they cannot back up their opinion's with facts, stats, or anything resembling a good reason why they like or dislike something...

whats really funny .. i was taught the game from old time players.. actually great old time players.. as a kid i had the pleasure of being coached by eddie long, len thornsen, norm waslawski , and reg primeau. the most valuable thing they all taught was respect. each and everyone of them taught respect... respect for the game.. respect for ourselves. sure we had heated rivalries with certain teams, sure we had some hottly contested games, sure we had some nastiness, but it all came back to what they preached and coached to us. RESPECT.. its what fueled the dislike for certain teams and certain players.. sorry dude .... i respect your opinions... i just dont agree with them .. sorry you dont understand it..

Your arguement is getting weaker dude....

"and yes jr1 oldtime hockey did have heated rivalries and yes there was hate fueling those games, but 99% of the time respect fueled all of it"........  Your words, not mine...

Besides, if you're trying to tell me that rivalries started because of the respect one team mate felt for another, you'd be full of crappola...  It comes down to what jersey you're wearing...  You may hate the guy on your team that just received a cheap shot; but because someone in a different jersey did it, you go after them, plain and simple...regardless of what sport your playing...

You are always taught to respect the game, respect your coaches, respect your team mates, etc...

Thinking this is a concept only known to you because you played organized hockey is disrespectful.

lol.. its just pretty obvious .. some have never had the expierence of playing organized hockey. and its really funny how those of us that have played organized hockey seem to agree upon the same principles and opinions of the game.. keep your opinion.. and i will keep mine.. maybe signing up for and adult rec league might help understand the sport.. lutheran health sports offers several leagues from beginner (highly recommended ) to advanced....  check it out.. might help with the knowledge of the sport.. but.. then again

Here we go about the systems and not catering to certain players. Good good for Sims to believe in his system after playing and coaching this long..I respect him for not changing his beliefs just to accommodate a couple of players a year. at least he believes in his coaching abilities..and we are a team so far this season that can usually compete with any other team on the ice. We may not win then all and we have had some downright crappy games...but then alot of times tweaks are made and the next game the guys play much better. Sorry to say because it seems to make several of you disgusted...Al's system does not need to be changed...it may need flexibility and fine tuning but that is done almost every season according to the teams strengths and abilities. . Some players will come through, not agree, want changes, be told no...and leave. Oh well, there is a reason the team had a coach and a captain...I believe in Sims knowledge and desire to win, I believe in franke and his interest in keeping the Komets a winning team, and our captain had almost every ones approval and confidence. The system can work, just maybe not for every style of player. That isn't am issue that Sims needs to be fired for..that is just a part of hockey that players and coaches have to work through...some can some players won't. Its probably a pretty difficult balancing act...and we jabber had alot of success in ft Wayne the last 5 seasons, and let's see what this season will bring. We ate holding our own and anything could happen. Go Komets!!!

Wow...you think your the only person who talks to or has talked to former players, GM's, scouts, agents, etc...?

Let me ask you this, off the post, do you actually go to the games or are you just another expert on here that takes the word of others about what happens?  We have seen those kinds of experts from time to time here.  I still havent seen you actually dazzle us with all your hockey wisdom...  Just, "take my word for it because I played tripe"....

If I had time for a rec league, I would go for it...  I have always wanted to excell at another sport.
