Tailing the Komets

Some updates, but not about recalls

Komets General Manager David Franke: ``Nothing has been finalized at all with Anaheim or Norfolk on what player movment wherewill be. That all comes from them. When they are ready to make their decision they will make it.''

In other news, forward Matt Kennedy is ready to play, and there's a spot for him because Thomas Beauregard is likely going on 21-day IR with an upper body injury. Mike Hoban has remained in Fort Wayne, and the Komets are shooting for Jan. 18 as a potential return date for Colin Chaulk. Brent Henley's knee brace has not arrived yet, but the Komets are hoping it arrives tomorrow so he can play against Evansville.

Looks like NHL camps will open Sunday, and the NHL season on Jan. 19.

Poor Henley and his equipment issues this season.

Does anyone have any info on why Alaska suspended 5 of their players today?

I am OK with Henley not playing. Look how much better we are doing without him. 2 for 2 without his laziness.

4 of them were their NHL guys, so that is a reason...  If suspended, I think you keep their rights in the ECHL, so maybe thats why they suspended them instead of releasing them???...

Yes.

Thanks JR. So are the players typically ok with this? And if so should we expect other teams and maybe even the Komets to do the same?

Those players were signed as free agents and were not assigned by NHL or AHL teams.

This is a special case, since all those NHL players who signed with the Aces were from Alaska (if memory serves me correctly...)...  Other ECHL teams who signed NHL'ers are or have waived them since they are returning to their NHL teams...

dont equate henleys play with lazyness. try depending on  a brace to play and then suddenly playing with one thats busted and we will see how much hustle you have.

Some are allowed excuses....some are not.....  It's always interesting to see who's blessed with them and who isnt...

Firman didnt need an excuse...

Was Henley's knee brace keeping him from putting a body on players sitting in the crease?  Or not giving the extra little shots that has gotten him so many minor penalties this season?

I'll call it on this one, JR. There was no way any athletic trainer worth his salt, and Dunner definitely is, would let a person who has had reconstructive knee surgery play without a brace. I saw the brace in question, and it's a mess. This one was out of Brent's hands because he'd rather go through torture than miss a game. It would hurt less.

I am pretty sure that JR and I are talking about the same thing, and that thing being Henley's lackluster play, and laziness BEFORE his brace was broken.  Always out of position, barely moves, stands on the blue line.  But you can continue to make excuses for him.  That's ok.

That wasnt my angle at all Blake...

1st, I would never ask any athlete with knee problems to play without a brace...I had to play with one and know how important they can be, especially mentally...

2nd, In your crease mentioned that the Komets were playing better the last 2 games without him and I was agreeing with that.  Certain players will get excuses thrown out there for their poor play until the cows come home while others will be thrown under the bus on a whim...  I understand henley has to wait on that brace before he can play again....I am saying the brace will do nothing for his lacking in certain area's this season (mentioned in my other post)...

I have no problem with those comments, then. I thought you were questioning his heart, which I didn't think was fair.

If you want to get technical, The Komets have played better as a team since Brittain got called up...he was also a lazy player that expected the pass all the time and never fought for the puck, he could not skate into the zone without losing the puck and when he was in the zone he stood around and as I said before, expected the puck to be given to him without working for it. 95% of his goals were simply because of luck..no skill what so ever.

Henley is a great defenseman and I've seen him save the games for us on more then one occasion.

I've never seen a team been nip picked so much in my life. There are far more things to complain about then a hockey team in Fort Wayne, IN!  For crying out loud, be glad we have a hockey team in Fort Wayne, IN!!

Brittian has no skill what so ever, 95% of his goals were luck?

Did I read that post correctly? Is that what you really intended to say?

Another predictable "be glad we have hockey" post.

Brittain sure has the Ducks organization believing in his good fortune. He's a 3rd round NHL draft pick for crying out loud. He's played more games at the "AAA" level than Colin Chaulk.

I submit the following link, since 95% of his goals are "luck"....please point out which ones of these are. In fact 12 of his 13 goals must be luck according to that percentage...

The rest of us must be watching a different game.

I guess what I should have said is that...he has not shown any more skill then let's say, Marino or any other high scorer we have on our team, people have said he has potential...of course he has potential and he probably showed it for the people who were scouting him...and sure maybe he looked like a skilled player when he got here...but the longer he was here, the lazier he got. And everyone on here was throwing all the other players under the bus....I am not an expert here...and neither are most of the bloggers on here, but I have seen 85% of the Komet games in person this season, which include the Solar Bears series in Florida, at Wheeling, Reading and Kzoo multiple games...so that being said...I've seen his play! Just because he was "awesome" when he got here, doesn't mean he was "awesome" when he left...

My point is....everyone struggles...its a team sport...everyone seems to only point out certain players and all the other players are untouchable. I mean come on...Brittain has played 3 games, has a -2 +/- and has 5min. Those are some awesome stats!! Yep, I can see why Norfolk called him up!
