Tailing the Komets

Komets continue talking patience before making moves

Random thoughts:

Is there anything more confusing than the playoff, signing, protected,  season ending, veteran signing lists and their various dates?

Some people made fun of the IHL for its "six out of seven teams  makes the playoffs" scenario.  Nobody seems to mention that the "E" sends 8 out of 9 west teams to the playoffs.

Back in August, David Franke was extolling the virtue of all AHL teams being able to look at his roster and encouraging them to call up his players.  Then he states, later, that Maggio (Cleveland) and Reiter (Bridgeport) were the beginnings of the Komet slide.  You can't have it both ways.  Besides, you're the GM, so replace them.

As yet  no one can explain to me why the visiting team cannot be announced during the pre-game in Fort Wayne, and masking it as a "league rule", while it is done in Kalamazoo and Toledo.  Things such as this always tempers, for me, the validity of announcements from the front office.  If it is the "sucks" chant or any other behavioral problem, just tell the truth.

I'm all for Al Sims right now.  They owe him the respect five championships have earned.   One way or the other, they should have the decency to make  his future known so he can choose whatever path makes him happy.

Hell, what do I know.  They want us to be patient when we're already "spoiled".

Al needs to go...bring in Gary Graham and let Chaulk learn for a couple of years.

Wow, season is over and tirades and history lessons still go on.

Alan, the West Conference will be gaining 2 teams from the CHL for next season...  From what I've heard, its a done deal and just waiting on the CHL playoffs to finish to announce...  Look for announcements from Allen and Rapid City...

The delay in the coaching decision seems to insinuate that the Komets are possibly waiting to talk to a coach who's team is still in the playoffs...  Just a guess on my part.

I would be very upset if the Komets hired guys like Graham or Gratz to replace Sims...  Neither of those guys know half of what Sims has forgotten to this point.  I'm sure they are both great guys; but I would like to see Graham get a few more years under his belt as a head coach before the Komets come a callin...

IF the Komets do not retain Sims (which I believe they should for one more season), they need to hire a guy with strong ECHL ties.  A guy who knows nthe ins and outs of the league and can pull in quality ECHL players...

If Sims is brought back, they need to let the horse run.  Less "press box interference" and no player loop holes for guys with ouchy feelings to bypass coaching.

Just my 2 cents (which are bound to go over about as well as a fart in an elevator for some fans here...lol).

Alan -

It is interesting you brought up announcing the visiting team before the game, and that it is a league rule that they don't.  I actually emailed the league about this rule, and they stated it was actually the other way around.  they stated it is a league rule that teams "must" announce the visiting teams starting lineup.

The "Slide" as they call it, occured when Caputi/Lasch got called back up. Say what you will about their locker room presence and defensive play, but they were scoring regularly. That gap wasn't made up, and then Brittain got called up, and we had very little going on offensively.

Thanks to JR, Josh, and Bronsin fpr their info.

To JR.  I had heard that one of the most compelling reasons the K's switched leagues was due to two things.  !) The CHL was going to fold after this season because the league had to prop up four of its franchises and, 2) there is a lawsuit against the league and the K's didn't want to be a part of it.

It makes sense that Allen and Wichita are looking for new pastures if any of that is true.

To Josh.  If my memory is correct, I think you had blogged us earlier about your e-mail to the league.  I had forgotten so thanks for reminding me.

To Bronsin.  Thanks for the post regarding the "slide".  I have a question for you.   My memory is always getting worse but wasn't Brittain already called up and gone by the time Caputi and Lasch were sent down?

Alan,

Caputi /Lasch were sent here on 11-27, and recalled on 12-26. Caputi was sent back on 1-3, but I cant find when he was sent back. It wasn't more than a few days I think.

Brittain was sent here on 10-12, and was recalled on 12-31.

Al Sims is under contract with the Komets until June 11th.  If the Komets make their head coach decision by the middle of May as they have stated, and they determine to let Al go, they will be giving him almost a month notice.  That is very fair, and it is much more notice than you would get in a corporate job.  By the way, I personally don't think they will replace Al.
