I'm sure you and Dschebig are correct.

The one thing that has always surprised me is how few times a player gets cut by a skate during a line brawl and/or bench clearing brawl.  Between the fighters flailing away, the linesmen trying to keep order, and the bodies moving unpredictably and suddenly, the one thing they all have in common are the "razor blades" they are standing on.

I just watched a Norfolk-Lowell end of period brawl from 2004, and those guys were just everywhere with players contorted and physically out of control.  A linesman did twist a knee trying to break it up and had to be helped off the ice.

Alan,

I would only be guessing but Clarkson from Toronto should get at least 10 games for leaving the bench. Kessel could get that many for his slashing since he did it twice. The video appears to be with intent to injure. I have  found anything that has been handed down from the NHL yet. Maybe Blake can update us.

Scott and Kessel apparently played against each other earlier in their hockey careers. I can't find out where. College?

At any rate, if you watch the very beginning Phil made a big mistake. He shoud keep two hands on the stick and keep it on this ice, ignoring the challenge. It's done all the time.

What Phil does is raise his stick and his elbow toward the other guy. It is the invitation an enforcer is looking for. No one in this area would see it that way but it looks very clear to me.

What follows is just stupid right through to the post game comments by the coaches.

Coach Carlyle took the Leafs from 22nd in PIM two years ago to number one in that category last year. So he better be prepared for some pressure on his "skill" guys.

Clarkson received 10 games for leaving the bench from the NHL. I still haven't seen any suspension for Kessell and I think there should be.

Isn't any fight performed with intent to injure. They should all get intent to injure. "Why did you punch that guy in the head" ..... "well it certainly wasn't to injure him" .....

I see today the Buffalo coach was fined for not controlling his bench.

No dollar amount was given.

A fight is one thing and while violent swinging or chopping with the stick as a weapon is another.

hockey fights include violent swinging, so try again "A fight is one thing and while violent swinging...."

Violently swinging ones arms at anothers head is no different than violently swinging a stick at someone.

You guys win! But I know the difference between apples and bananas! Besides one is red and the other yellow. Maybe I should say I know the difference between fruit and nuts or night and day!

Golden Delicious Apples are Yellow

Violent swinging of apples, be they red or yellow, as a weapon, would definatley be intent to injure.

Most importantly, nuts on the ice can be very dangerous.

A couple thoughts, I don't know the slashes were violent, they weren't to his head, I'd rather have a slash to the leg pads than a punch to the face from that goon and I would wear a fine like a badge of honor if he came after me for nothing...Maybe he would think twice about it next time.
