Tailing the Komets

Here's what I saw today

Forward Mike Vaskivuo and defensman Kyle Follmer sat out Tuesday's training camp scrimmage because of hip pointers, according to Komets General Manager David Franke... That mean regular left wing Chris Auger had to play defense in the scrimmage, and he held his own... The Komets have a new defenseman in camp in Derek Foam who played some last year for South Carolina and Evansville... The defense got a little thinner when Jeremy Gates, who has been playing well, took a puck to the face and had to leave for stitches... The goals on Monday were scored by Tristan King with assists from John Dunbar and Brandon Marino, by Dunbar from King and by Kaleigh Schrock from Kyle Bochek and Marino... Dunbar has been dynamic so far. He's always got the puck, usually in front of the net trying to score... Scott Fleming continues to be very creative with the puck... Rookie Kevin Walrod looked good, continually pushing in the front of the net, including against the Komets' bigger defensemen... The pairing of Nick Tuzzolino and Nik Pokulok has been dominating, in part because with their size they can cover so much ground... Play wasn't as physical as it was Monday, but there was more communication and the quick pace continued throughout the hour-long scrimmage... During the shootout, Schrock was the only player to score twice, but Simon Danis-Pepin, William Lacasse, Darick Ste. Marie, Matthew Larke, Pokulok, Lang and Bobby Hughes all scored.
