Ironic how the one guy who is paid VERY WELL to solely add character says the team has none..... Great investment...

I wasted a Friday night last night to watch that pathetic, uninspired, lackluster performance... I am a season ticket holder, so I will be going again tonight; but I really don't want to.....as a long time Komets fan, that kills me to say...

I can take losing; but not losing this way. This is embarrassing!

BTW, there was no timeout called in the second period because Coach had no idea what to do to fix the problem...  He doesnt have 2 hours in between periods to study film and make adjustments...  It looked like the adjustment made during the first intermission was to roll over and play dead.  Abysmal.

The Komets have a young inexperienced coach and it is showing big time.  Thats why except for the few times they have caught lightening in a bottle, this team looks so bad in the second and third periods.    Zero ability to make adjustments to what the other team is doing.

The riff between Graham and Hughes and the subsequent trade, is hurting this team right now in a major way...  Embach is a winger, yet he was playing center.  This team has 2 centers right now:  Flemming and Miller.  Miller shouldnt be on this team, he's not good enough for this league...  That leaves the KOmets with one legitimate ECHL center in Flemming.  Major problem.

Can anyone remember a softer Komets team with less heart?  The fans were practically begging for some rough stuff at the end of the third period....nothing happened.  Graham sent his third line out there for the final shift, Reading countered and lined up the dman #11 next to Schrock (those two had a run in earlier in the game)....nothing happened.  They missed a golden opportunity to send the fans out the door on somewhat of a good note and show us there is some fight and life in them...  FAIL.

I guess the important thing is they were able to shower up quick and get out to the bars to mingle without any soreness, bumps or bruises to inhibit their party time.............

I can only echo the thoughts of JR.

The third line needs to go.  Reichard got called up after the game ( the world is just full of surprises, but it just may solve a problem).

Graham says he wanted to see how the Komets reacted to "adversity"?  Holy cow, they are 4-4-3 at HOME.  Don't you think by now you've seen how they react to adversity??

Time for major changes.  Some may be expensive to swallow.  Parking up, concessions up, level of play down, attendance down.  Mathematically its not a good formula.

The fun has been destroyed at the Coliseum like a balloon that's been popped.  It's just GONE!

From my seats, this season is a disaster.  From my seats I can see the ownership bowing out.  From my seats I see a coaching change to renew respect from the players. From my seats I see that the team leadership is sorely missing.  From my seats....

well what difference does it make and who cares what it looks like from my seats?  My seats will be empty next year.

Well Alan and JR1....I have not seen eye to eye often with you both, but sure do on this one.  I left at the end of the 2nd period and listened to Chase's interview with Kent Benson.  Benson described it like you both did, with the air coming out and the team not able to recover....looking slower after each goal was scored.

Sad to say but even though I have been a Schrock supporter....that third line needs to be replaced.

Also noticed all the line changes and the toooooo numerous to mention back passes to teammates who were not there to receive them.

Lackluster game, terrible play and by far the worst one I have seen this year.

Agree that as a season ticket holder it is tough to swallow....not sure about next year.

Seriously, Reichard got called up?....where

Fire Graham ...this is what needs to happen .. the Franke's can say face ..then they can bring in a new coach to turn this season around and make these players believers again ...you can make all the trades you want to make Graham look good but its not going to help ..no leadership behind the bench and in the locker room coming from Graham

Schlock needs to more talking with his actions on the ice and if that means he has 3 fights and gets kicked out so be it that is what his role is period. Some of the big guys on blue line same thing. This is what u can expect out of an ave team tonight good chance they play a lot better game. Same with goalies one nite lights out next nite can't stop a beach ball.

When Schrock said they 'got a fluke goal and it's like a mogue in there' was he talking about the crowd? It's hard to tell from the rest of the quote, but if he was, is he kidding? I thought the crowd was doing pretty well during the first period, until the air went out of the team. What does he expect when his mates fail to bury 4 or 5 great chances in the first period, and then gives up one off a skate? That's when the guys on the ice are suppose to do something, anything, that brings the fans back into the game. That is his job.

Management takes away the cues that produce fan response. We play word games in breaks or see people with long hair. Am I suppose to be excited by that? Do those breaks do anything positive for the crowd?

There is no edge on or off the ice, and hockey is a game played on an edge. The intensity on-ice speaks for itself. Off-ice, notice how Icy doesn't do donuts on his four wheeler anymore? Maybe 10 years ago, Icy did a spin and crashed into the boards at the door. He probably got in trouble, and it was something a bad boy would do, but it had an edge and fans loved it. Let's put the edge back into the game, and the stands.

Maybe we should pass a hat at tonight's game so we can send everyone in management a DVD of 'Slap 'Shot' for Christmas. There isn't anything wrong with just a little naughtiness on or off the ice at a hockey game.

JR1...funniest comment I have seen in a long time....made me laugh and I am still laughing....my wife knows CPR and is handling it on my end.

Did Reichard get called up?....still no response from anyone?

Anne, I agree....how boring (as I have yelled out many times during the breaks)....the haircut cam, the goalie races and the "Vanna" game.  Bring back the slingshot puck people....the true t-shirt throwers, not those who cannot throw beyond 7 rows....people puck races....etc.....marketing needs a makeover.

Anne Argast
Sat, 12/21/2013 - 10:47am

Thanks for clarifying that Blake. I hope I was clear that I wasn't sure how to take that comment. Schrock strikes me as one of the guys most likely to take responsibility for himself and his team so that was why I was surprised. If Schrock was making excuses then we really are in big trouble.

It's very easy to sit at a keyboard and call out players without knowing everything going on with them, or the specific job they've been asked to do on the ice in a shift or a game. I do feel justified in commenting on my experience at the game so I stand by the rest of my post. A little bit of edge and a little bit of bad-boyishness would go a long way towards raising energy.

By the way, can't we adjust things so the puck can actually drop at the announced game time?

Reichard got called up to Iowa of the AHL as an emergency back-up. My guess is the Komets will call up Max Strang from Bloomington.

Who/SuZ
Sat, 12/21/2013 - 11:14am

Wow, I thought initially Strang was a good choice for us....statistics now show him at 3w-9l....4.15 gaa and .888 sp....looked up Muse - 10-6...2.39gaa and .919 sp....to bad we cannot get him back

Will assume there are no other goalies available to us other than Strang or we would try and get them?

Who/Suz, white won the goalie race, first time ever. He ran in, had the lead the whole way, and broke the tape. Did anyone care? There was no drama, and it was about as much fun as you'd expect from a staged race. It might as well have been a cartoon on the jumbotron.

In another time, over the course of a season, white would have been tackled by icy, white would have slipped at the line, another racer would have stepped over him, and so on. We might have put white in the uniform of that night's opponents. White would have become an entertainment. It would be stupid, goofy and maybe even annoying but there would have been some fun, and I'll bet the fans would start to get into it a bit and start guessing how white would lose this time. No passion, no joy, no fun.

While many on this blog have said Graham needs to go...I disagree.  He is new, the team is very young and they are trying...albeit very trying 4 us as fans.  We cannot expect to have a great team every year....like we have in the past.....it may take a while for this rebuilding to occur....while I do not like everything I C.....patience may be in order for a while longer....not sure how much longer....maybe thru the end of the year?

As much of a Schrock supporter as I have been during the years....maybe sitting him and some of his linemates would send a better message?

Whats with Poduluk?

one glaring thing thats obvious from the game/stat sheet is that Lang's line was on the ice for all the goals.  Embach had been on the third line for the two previous wins but moved last night to Lang and Vaskivou. They were all a -4 each . Reading played a great road game. We just had a line that got torched 5 times.   It seemed offensively that this line kept trying to make the perfect play and would lose the puck which created good offensive breakouts for Reading.  They had their D men trailing on a couple nice goals.  Our guys were to far back in the play.   They need to just fire away at all times and pursue rebounds.   Last thing they need to get is "tristankingitis" ( play with the puck too much and dont back check)

Im sure they practiced all week with Embach on the second line.  Gotta figure he gets moved back to 3 rd line and move Miller or Syr&*^&*^ski(sp?) back up.  At least be considered.

The Komet's performance last night stunk.  No doubt about that.  What bothered me most of all was was that I don't think that you can point to anyone who put the required effort in.  Usually there are at least a couple people trying.  Last night they all played like it was a who-cares-what-happens scrimmage game.  Everyone played, but there was no fire, no effort, no push to take control of the game, no attempt to actually win.  Execution was bad.  The entertainment was boring, to say the least.  And I can't blame anyone for leaving early.  Everything about the night was lackluster and the "event" was a total snoozer.  Even if you had a free ticket, the game was not worth the time and price of attending.  Between ticket fees and parking fees, STH's are now supporting "entertainment" that no longer has entertainment value for those who really care about hockey.  As others have pointed out numerous times, there are major problems with the whole package that is being presented.

I really wish they would give Mahfouz a shot. Not saying he is going to turn the team around but you can't deny his productive stats and his entertainment value. From watching videos of him he undoubtedly plays with a lot of passion and fire which is what this team lacks right now. I would love to see him in a komet uniform even if it's just for a few games. Might bring in a few extra fans too.

cant believe you people calling for coaching change. when you have players to stop playing the system the coach cant do too mjuch except scream  and yell   cant bench anybody cause there aint nobody to take their place, and get off schrocks back.  hes the only guy out there who i think hustles every shift, he tried to fight last  night but the other guy said no, any why is it schrock is the only one we expect to fight?? we have a few guys a lot bigger than him and they dont even try to fight. andf thats the real problem. our dmen and wingers dont finish checks, we dont stand guys with the puck up atthe blue line, we allow them to skate in and shoot without beign touched.  our d men in the corners and behind the net throw errant passes because they are bracing themselves in fear of getting hit.     the problem with this team is twofold...1. cant bury the puck in the net and mostly cant even hit the net.  and 2. we are not mean and nasty.   hockey is still a game of finese and intimidation. and it takes the intimidation to open up the game so the finese players can do their thing.  we juslt dont have that intimidation no meaness and no nasty.  no point in stocking the team with huge defensemen when those same guys dont check anybody and of course dont even fight.   time to bring in starenky and some of his buddies from the good league.  cant be any worse than the way it in now.  time to step it up komets and ffight for a job.   the game presentation is a  subject for a whole nother time!!and i aint giving up my seat just cause they suck.  not a sunny weather fan or one on the bandwagon. im in it for the longhaul.

Not sure who Mahfouz is (some detail please).

Not saying Schrock has not tried, but his stats and those of his linemates are very, very LOW.

No response on where is Poduluk?

Also, just heard the Coliseum lost its compressor and the ice is mushy...anyone else heard this....Blake?

Wow, looked Mafhouz up....FHL player....15G/18A in 13 GP with 81 PIM....ok,,,,willing to try him out...certainly cannot hurt

Maybe we could send a member of the third line down to Dayton for a trial run with this guy?

Alan
Sat, 12/21/2013 - 4:19pm

Or maybe all four of them. (Just a joke...I think).

I'm not sure what the hesitancy is on giving Mahfouz a chance.  He may not work out.  Probably won't, but its not like we're offering him some "golden parachute".

Hey, its a business.  Give the customers what they want.

A quick little bit of truth for those calling for the Coach's head...

Last season, through 23 games

12-10-0-1 = 25 points

This season, through 23 games

10-9-1-3 = 24 points

What a COLOSSAL step backwards we made!

The problem is if they give up on the coach it's gonna turn out way worse the Coach can't make changes to help. The players are here the system is the problem

AJ

Well caprad...that coach last season was fired...after one heck of a winning career here. So this years coach should be held to the same standard. At least Sims had a clear system...I have no idea what Gary has. It's strange. So this season is not horrid compared to last season...but I assumed they fired Al because they wanted improvement..in some way. This year is even more boring than last.
