Tailing the Komets

In his words: Jordon Southorn

Talks about the altercation Saturday night and how the Komets responded.

You can read it here.

Here's what Ben Meisner said about the situation: ``I don't really hold any grudges, that's for sure. It's just part of hte game. Was that guy saying, I'm going to injure this goalie? No. He's not a dirty player at all. I don't hold anything against him.''

Should your teammates have jumped on the guy?

``It's not going to fix the situation. I know the team has my back and they would go through a wall for me. It's a mutual feeling and that's why we're starting to have success here. It's kind of nice to know that.''

thats the biggest bunch of bs ive ever heard.  lets pay them back by calling them a bad name and lets hack them a little.  this is sad. it isnt the 70s anymore but now i see why teams fold or have little attendance if this is what the players believe.. hope you all survive the trip to kzoo and i hope the komet orginaazation survives the mass exodus of  fans that is sure to take place. what a shame, this used to be exciting to watch and it sure used to be exciting to play but not anymore.

Gotta agree with most of what Chuckitt says here...

The only thing is....watch other games around the league and this mindset is not universal....

Those are some pretty lame excuses. Now I think I know why those players quit the team. They were tired of nobody sticking up for them when got cheap shoted and wanted out before someone eneded their career. So points are more important to them then a teamates safety. Sad , very sad.

Have to say it but I agree with comments posted above....sad indeed.

P. S. - thanks for being here for us Ben Meisner...you deserved the win tonight....and had you played all of last night you most likely would have won.....glad to have you.

Not the way the game is played in the NHL. Watch an NHL game and see the way the game is played.

NHL is the same. We have the data. http://www.hockeyfights.com/stats/

We have a small sampling of the mindset of the players.

Team is coming together, 11 out of 14 pts last 7 games, will winning overcome the lack of old time hockey?

Exciting, physical hockey will keep my interest. Whimpy, proper players getting wins will not. Tonight was a good game. The lack of any retribution and almost zero hitting in the first was shameful.

I agree with Chuckitt about the b.s and with AJ about the exciting physical play for the reason to come to the games. We do not want powder puff hockey! I can't believe that Southorn and the other players really did not think they should properly protect their goalie? I've never heard of that before in this game, but, if that is really their mindset, then don't be surprised when some other players finally get tired of being run and also decide to quit. These guys do seem to be playing better as of late and I really liked the Toledo game on Friday night. Much more hitting and action...would like to see much more of that at home. Oh and Ivan, I watch almost every Blcakhawk hockey game and I hate to tell you but there is at least 10 times more real body checking going on in those games than any Komet game that I have seen in years! I agree that fightin is down even in the NHL at least the games that I see. Let's go to K-Zoo and win one then get ready for a lot of Elmira!

Will winning overcome the lack of old time hockey? For me the answer is NO!!! Others have said it, this is a blue collar town and there is a certain type of hockey we enjoy watching (I am not speaking for everyone, just the rather large group of friends my family used to attend games with). My family would love to come back (and literally spend $150-$200 per game on tickets and food, not to mention well over $1K annually in Komet swag) but not for this boring type of hockey. We have a lot of old jerseys wasting away in closets. On the bright side, the money we've saved by not watching this euro style hockey live has helped buy new furniture. Berne IN thanks you for that.

If the players and the goalie didn't feel the way they expressed themselves in quotes they would not have said a thing to Blake. While my thoughts was to have run the Kzoo goalie in the "eye for an eye" mentality I defer to the guys who actually were involved.

dont want people to get the wrong idea.  i bleed orange and black and want the team and players to be at the top. its just that hockey has turned from a physical intimidating sport into one fueled by soccer moms.  dont do anything to hurt little johnny.  im old school and proud of it. call it a macho thing or whatever but i believe in the comrade of teammates and the common bond of suffering and winning toghether! all for one and one for all going forwards to win and win at all costs.  but todays brand of hockey is one for one and thats it. when a team as a whole refuses to help a fallen teammate or send a message{other than not nice talk} it really makes me wonder where this game has gone. ive gone to komets games for over 50 years and am a season tickey holder for over 40. played hockey in college and have coached baseball for over 40 years. none of that really gives me any special things to hold over anybody on this blog.  it just really bothers me that the sissy style of hockey and the me me me mindset of the players is going to ruin the game i grew up idolizing. i used to look forward to going to a game and could feel the tension and the excitement that would build before the game even started. sunday night that feeling was there and when lawrence was the starting center i felt that old time hockey excitement onece again.........but unfortunatly the puck dropped and not a damn thing happened. i am seriously considering not renewing my coveted season tickets. if the players dont care about their teammates or dont care what the fans who pay their salaries think then why should i care???

Sometimes retribution is not immediate.  Maybe is will come Wednesday, later in the season or in a way we will never publically know about.  Maybe it will never come at all.

People just go back ten to fourteen days ago. Outside of a few TRUE KOMET FANS most wanted the GM, Coach, and nearly the entire team gone. That the current players and even those just arriving would not turn things around. Now many have moved onto the fact the Komets are not fighting and blame it on the coach.

Since New Year's Eve the Komets are 4-0-3. There have been many years, including some that the team was very successful, that they never went seven games without a regulation time loss. But that is not good enough for some and I just wonder what this team has to do to stop the bashing. Hay, when a player or line messes up every fan has the right to speak up. Then again when that player or line does well then they should also speak up.

The other thing is when the locker room was filled with cancer you didn't see players being quoted as saying the locker room was good but now that things are positive and players are saying such, they are lying!
