speaking of bruisers, just finished reading this weeks sports illustrated which features not only a small story about the hight school basketball kid hatch, but has a pretty lengthy story about the building and demolishing of the old danbury trashers of the uhl!  this story really spells it out with what a lot of people were thinking back then! surprized there werent any hits assigned by those connected!

The Komets will finish 7th in the conference and make the playoffs.

I could explain it better, but I'd need charts, and graphs, and an easel.

I do not think the K's will make the playoffs.

Looking at the numbers.....

If nothing changes, the only team the Komets have a chance at overtaking for a playoff spot is the team that currently sits at #8, Greenville.  The Komets are averaging 1.09 points per game while Greenville is averaging 1.08...  That gives the Komets a slim 0.74 points advantage for the season if every team continues at their current points per game average.

The downside?  The Komets schedule is about to get a lot tougher...  IMO, the next 6 games will determine the Komets chances of making the playoffs.  The next 6 games are against Elmira and Wheeling who both sit below the Komets in the standings.  5 of those games are against Elmira who currently sits dead last in the East.

After these next 6 games, the Komets will play 25 of their remaining 31 games against teams who currently sit above them in the standings...  Tall order...

I like the name I am hearing that may be coming our way from Orlando (although another smaller forward) who will add grit and some scoring punch and rumors are out there that the Komets may be bringing in a good player from over seas...  There are still holes in the roster and maybe these 2 players will be the patches for a couple of those...  Time will tell.

JR1, I'm thinking that I may have a good idea on the identity of the Orlando player.  I am grateful to hear that the Franke's are looking to Europe to solve other roster woes.  I think the K's need to bring in TWO forwards.  Both need "soft" hands that can score.

I think they need a strong "stay at home" defenseman.  I think they need an older, experienced goal tender who can lead by example, and tutor one of the other young guys (whether it is Makarov or Meisner).

Where to get these guys is always the question I'm asked.  Well, I'm hoping the "futures" can provide one of the forwards, and am hoping a guy(s) from Europe ( who wants to come home ) can provide either a strong scoring forward or a goaltender (or both).

The defenseman would come from the CHL.

I'm not sure the reason why, but Toledo waived defenseman Phil Oreskovic.  He is a 6'3" 245lb defenseman who is a veteran (played many AHL games as well as ECHL.

Maybe this is a guy who can add to the stay- at -home player I think this team needs.  He has plenty of penalty minutes so it appears he's not afraid to mix it up.  His plus/minus is repectable, too.

Just sayin'.
