Last nights game Orlando and Utah   Lang Scores    Phil Mangan scores tying and overtime winning goal. He must have not been happy playing here.

Blake,

Why did we add Saalfrank as an emergency goaltender? Something happen to one of our guys?

Ben Messner went home to his grandmother's funeral. He'll be back Sunday.

Scott Fleming was runner-up for ECHL Rookie of the Month, and Brandon Marino was runner-up for ECHL Player of the Month.

Blake, after time to reflect, do you still feel that Graham deserves only a C- for the season, so far?

Blake Sebring

Maybe a C. Coach always gets the same grade as the team, and at .500 that would be a C, wouldn't it?

I hate grading stuff like that during the season because it never matters until the end. You could also say he's done a pretty good job to have them over .500 with the goaltending they've gotten.  So if they win tonight it's a C+, but by Monday it could be a C- again. LOL.

To me, giving grades is a gimmick to say ``Hey, look, I'm the hockey expert and what I say is law.'' It's an attention-getter more than anything else.

Not really in my case.

Are we expecting any future considerations to show up this weekend?...or any other call ups from either the SPHL or the FHL?

Highly unlikely.

Here's something I found in a story I wrote last year:

The ECHL requires players joining the league to have a P1 visa with teams before they can play, and the process of acquiring one can take two or three weeks. That's why ECHL teams are only calling up players who already have the visa or who are Americans. Dayton forward Ahmed Mahfouz with 25 goals and 69 points in 29 games has not been called up because he is Canadian.

Why wouldn't he work on getting his visa for a good chance at being called up?

C, C- is probably fair.  The exodus of players sure doesn't look good, but that's certainly not all on him.

Unless something catastrophic happens, I think that he should get at least the better part of 2 seasons to prove himself.

Guess I shouldn't be mad but they always make stupid signs in Evansville. I watched the warm ups on line and the sign says the reason the Komets are 500 is because Schrock is the Captain. Come on. Can you not remember the last several years you have sucked in Eville.

Lang continues to score (19). Heard anything on where Vask might be headed?

Nothing yet, but I have heard they are getting close.

Blake, why do you think he doesn't have a visa already? Does he not want to move up?

Blake Sebring
Fri, 01/03/2014 - 8:12pm

I have no idea. I'm not even sure what the rules are or if he would be eligible.

It can take years to get a VISA. I know players who have married American women and it still takes years.

You make a good point. could be the reasonwhy he hasn't been called up by anybody.

I am glad to see that Szydlowski continues to get PP time.  His production has definitely earned it.

No, it's still good. Assist to Marino.

Lang and Mangan have both scored again tonight.  There are a lot of former Ks lighting the lamp lately.  Wonder how that could be.

In my opinion, I think Gary rubbed them the wrong way and they couldn't take constructive criticism.

AC, I agree that was part of it.  However, to absolve Coach Graham of any responsibility for the locker room problems is not realistic in my opinion either.

Players never like coaches until after the season is over and they are lifting a cup.

I am suprised that we are not the Big Team that was advertised at the start of the season, weve turned into a small fast team again and we get pushed around alot again???

Blake Sebring
Fri, 01/03/2014 - 9:10pm

It was part of a strategy, I believe. Good big players are quickly called up anyway, so the Komets went with small and quick guys who would be around all year. If they try to get bigger, anybody who is any good at all will be called up very quickly to the AHL.

Look around at the rest of the ECHL. Right now all of the teams are smaller than they were at the start of the season because of call-ups. Evansville is not bigger than the Komets, and neither will Kalamazoo be on Sunday.

Not much physical play tonight from what I've seen. Looks like both teams are trying to save energy for the weekend.

Blake Sebring

Soft defense, soft goal on that one. About three Komets could have stopped it.
