Tailing the Komets

Good problems to have

Scott Fleming is heading back to the Komets from Worcester of the AHL, and Jason Dale and Simon Danis-Pepin are both hoping to play Wednesday in Cincinnati, meaning coach Gary Graham has some tough but good decisions to make about his lineup.

What would you do?

I guess we would have to send the Orlando player back..not enough room.

Tough decisions for the  coach indeed.  Everyone has contributed at key times. All deserve to play.

Nutkevitch would be gone for sure and probably Miller. Gates would be next for me if we have to lose a D man.

As I posted on the other blog, let's just not assume because Fleming is coming back that he is here for awhile.  Maybe this is just a reaction to the Olympics and a roster adjustment.  If he stays, Szydlowski would be gone.  If he is leaving shortly than Nutkevitch or Miller is gone.

My fear in all of this is two-fold.  The recent "surge" of play may make the Franke's a little hesitant to make changes.  It's natural and who could blame them?  Still, I think you should ALWAYS try to make your roster better.  The "futures" are still out there and shouldn't be ignored nor swept away with a false sense of optimism.  Make the team better.

Here's the thing.  Who knows where this team stands with the salary cap.  Only the Komet (Franke) family.  Nutkevitch is inexpensive (SPHL contract), Szydlowski also ( most being charged against his AHL team), and (who knows) with Miller?

This team is getting close.  With Fleming back, a stay-at-home defenseman is a glaring need.  They aren't going to change the goaltending up and that leaves the forwards, also, as the vulnerable spot.

The team is good as far as "verterans" go.  The team is as close as it may be since the beginning of the year to solidify itself into a league power.  Circumstances hold the answer.  But whatever they may be; always strive to improve.

Wow! This has turned into something, hasn't it?

If there is enough room on the roster for everyone, keep them. It's always good to have bodies to fill in. Miller should probably go on reserve. As far as the defense goes maybe its time for Hartman or Lacasse to sit. Or even who is banged up the worst.

I think there is enough room. I never intended this thread should mean they throw people away, it was more of who would you play and where on Wednesday.

Just to be fair.

Its always nice when someone comes back at you and criticizes comments that were made in an honest, fair, truthful, and helpful manner.

Many times, Chuckitt, you and I haven't things seen the same way.  I know you are a true, loyal Komet fan and have been for many years.  So am I.  And I didn't say all the things you printed in your comment, and I know the comment wasn't specifically aimed at me (or any other poster, for that matter).  Just a combination of posts (thoughts or opinions) regarding a variety of opinions on a lot of different matters.

Breaking down your post, I need to reiterate that I do not want Franke to step down.  As "old quotes" posted ( and has admonished me for bringing it up), he realizes his mistake of not having the "no report" clause in his Orlando trade...said it would never happen nor trust anybody again.  That's all you can do.

As far as Schrock goes...he's the ninth or tenth forward on the team.  Graham has stated so.  He knows his role, and if he shows the hustle and emotion of the last few games, he can contribute mightily to the success of the team.  It seems as if the locker room is a better place now, too.

Your statement "purge the whole team and bring in different guys" leaves me a little baffled.  I mean, that's exactly what happened.  Going back to the JG preview section in October, there were listed 21 or 22 players.  By my last count only 7 or 8 are still here.

The statement you used in your comment quotes those who have derided the Komets for not affiliating.  "We need an affiliation" is the way you put it and I'm assuming you are using that as another example of posters being wrong, or at the very least, throwing it back in their faces.  What we need to remember is that David Franke, himself in August 2012, said that to be successful in the ECHL you need to affiliate.  Remember?  OK, which is it?

I've got no problem at all with no affiliation.  Done right, there are many advantages to being independent.

This streak that the Komets are on is a wonderful thing.  I hope it lasts.  I have no idea or reason to think it won't, but I have seen too many things this year to finally "exhale" and relax.

My own thoughts here:  I am hoping the komets (front office) will not relax in their efforts to get better.  They still have those "futures" from Orlando and Utah.  I hope they are still scouring the waiver wire, and I hope they are talking to players from Europe.

Their recent surge is very gratifying.  It would be understandable to back off a little and "breathe".  I hope they don't.  I want them to use vigilance in their effort to make this team even better.

This thread is titled, "Good problems to have".  I sure would like to know the situation on Fleming.  Was he sent back as a result of the Olympic break?  My gut feeling tells me this is the reason.  It just seems too coincidental.

Chuckitt, you are a good fan.  So am I.  Sometimes we all go after things in a different manner.  It doesn't mean we don't care.  And right now, fans disagreeing on some stuff while the Komets are winning is a "good problem to have".

Great post Alan, well thought out...

Chuckitt seems to forget that he himself was calling for many of those same changes that he is now ripping others for... Hypocrite.

This revamped Komets team looks good right now... Tough schedule coming up and I hope they are firing on,all cylinders...

sorru jr  you once aggain are delusional. my harshest statements were we needed guys who wanted to play tough and i also said and if the current guys werent going to listen to gary then gary should be replaced to shake things up.  my post was strictly satirical.  i hate it when people start calling people names, i hate it when the frankes are villanized after 20 years of success and i hate the fair weather fans that complain about everything and anything.  if some one has a complaint then they need to say what they would do to fix it and most of the time lots of people on here just bitch and moan.  hypocryte? think not.  i always said wait till christmas before any real complaints should be voiced and then i too voiced concerns but not once did i get nasty about schrock the frankees or the coach.  thats a big difference.
