Tailing the Komets

What the Komets were complaining about

On the final face-off of regulation, the Komets were claiming Kalamazoo's Nick Sirota interfered with Kaleigh Schrock's attempts to get out to cover the point where Sam Ftorek was receiving the puck off the faceoff. Ftorek passed to David Pacan who blasted a slap shot on net where all three Wings forwards were surrounding Komets goaltender Andrey Makarov. The puck actually went in off the skate of Chris Lawrence who was clearly in the crease before the puck arrived.

Here's a picture where  you can see Lawrence's skate in the crease.

First, best game I have seen them play as a team all year.  Did Schrock get picked, yes but I don't see any official make that call because numerous bodies where there banging away.  Thought when Kzoo turned it up K's really could match it, only got 4 shots on goal in the 3rd.  Also, in the end have to win that face-off something they have struggled with all year.  Like the intensity in the game there was a lot of extra stuff all night.  While some may not like how Graham handled himself in the heat of the moment, I liked his emotion.  This team just has trouble closing out close games to the point now it is waying heavily on their minds.

The call on the faceoff should have been holding because one of the Kzoo players warpped his arm around Southorn's neck and pulled him to the ice. That missed call was simply a travesty! And it happend directly in front of the ref. I realize the ref had the whistle out away most of the night but he was at least calling the obvious stuff... except for this one. It was also very disrespectful to force the Komets off their HOME ICE when they were trying to acknowledge the fans after the game. This was the worst officiating staff I've seen so far this year.

Overall I think the Komets put out a good effort. It was nice to see some physical play for a change. Hopefully they can rebound from this heartbreaker of a loss and put together two solid wins the next two days!
