In other words, somebody call and ambulance for Alan, who just had a coronary. :)

And no, they are not talking contract with Justin Hodgman.

Damage control in June....

At mid june last year I think the only players from the prior year were Schrock, Marino( re signed) and Auger( rehab). The Komets ended up being two overtime wins from knocking out Cincy.  Point is, cannot judge next years team by whats left in the fridge after the season.

Difference being, we don't have our team MVP and leading scorer locked up early this season...

After the coronary, I had a chance to sit down and think a little about what David Franke said.

If a slower pace equals a better roster, then great.  It has been put in the paper, quoted for all to see, and now it is time to 'see' how it procedes.  Shoot,  I'll wait all summer if it gets me an extra ten to fifteen wins at home.  But I have got to admit some things sound good in the summer and are totally opposite the very next summer.  Want an example?  In 2012 "the way to do business in the ECHL is to be affiliated".  The summer of 2013 it changed to "we think we can do better controlling our own roster."   Two opposite thought processes by same people to the same fanbase.  Both sounded good to me and both had their good points.  Still, after just two years, both failed miserably.

I truly want to see Gary Graham successful.  "Guns a blazin"?  Well maybe it did seem that way.  Point is that this is a new year, a new beginning.  Using knowledge learned from experience is never a bad thing.  We'll see if anything has been learned and how those lessons have been placed into the formation of the team.  I also hope he has the ability to adjust his style according to the make-up of his team.  Sometimes a coach has to be stern.  Other times he must be flexible.  It's a "tightrope " to be sure.  Sometimes surrounding yourself with good leadership in the locker room not only helps, it is a must.

So far there have been lots of negatives.  Deaths in the komet family (so terribly sad), players fleeing to Europe (more rumored), a roster in a state of flux.  Maybe it's time for something "positive" to come out of the front office.

I think Komet fans deserve it.  I think they are hungry for it.  And I'm sure it would be welcomed.

The ECHL is a league of little roster stability.  Harsh veteran rules and affiliations almost dictate it.

Monday is the first day signings can be announced.  I'm not naive enough to think the komets are going to show their hand.  I wouldn't want that.  But after an off season with so much turmoil and sadness, I hope they throw a scrap of optimism our way.

Alan, fast or slow pace, Im sure as the opportnities present themselves for the player(s) they want, they will pull the trigger. I suspect they have made contact with agents or visa-versa, for half the team already. As an independant, they were two overtime wins from advancing.  A bounce here or a bounce there.  As to an affiliation, again, if its a relationship that meets both parties expectations, Im cool with that.  Im not as concerned about how they start a season but as to how they finish the season.

I think Clarke, Sydlowski and Embach would be great starts but not holding my breath on anyone.
