Tailing the Komets

Komets affiliate with Avalanche

From a Komets' press release:

The Komets announced Tuesday that they have entered into an affiliation agreement for 2014-15 with the National Hockey League's Colorado Avalanche and the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League (AHL).

"The Fort Wayne Komets are very excited about this new affiliation between the Colorado Avalanche and the Lake Erie Monsters," Fort Wayne general manager David Franke said.  "As I have stated many times, if we could find the right NHL/AHL partner, we would become affiliated again.  I feel with the director of player personnel David Oliver and assistant Avalanche general manager Craig Billington, we have found the right partners.  Those gentleman, along with Josh Kroenke, Joe Sakic and head coach Patrick Roy, are focused on winning and developing from within the entire organization."

Franke also added, "This will provide our players a direct line to the AHL.  There will be player movement during the season between Fort Wayne and Lake Erie.  That is what the ECHL is all about, developing players so they can reach the highest level possible.  The opportunity to work with David Oliver and his scouting staff will be a huge asset to the Komet organization."

does anyone know what the Avalanche position is now with the CHL Cutthroats? Is it a bi-AA relationship in that we share with the Cutthroats or are they out and we are in?

It will remain. Avalanche don't want to overload one AA team with eight or nine players.

Any chance that if things work out Fort Wayne could move up to be Colorado's primary affilate in the future?  Especially with the proposed AHL Pacific Division a year from now?

There's nothing to base that on now. It would depend on a ton of factors.

I guessing the Cutthroats will get the older prospects who are still on contract and not going anywhere. We will get the younger prospects moving back and forth between us and Cleveland. Thats usually the case with the CHL vs the ECHL.  Generally you go the CHL to finish out your career.

Oh and BTW , I saw Alan posted a fine article on the JG. Good writing and thought. As always. Whats it going to take to get him back on the NS?

Carl, excellent reporting!  As Dave Franke and Blake Sebring have stated time and time again, minor league hockey is always in a state of flux.
