Staged fights, show fights and all that kind of garbage have no place in hockey, and I say good-riddance.
However, hockey is played with sticks and sharp skates. The game is too fast and the surface too big for the refs to see everything. Fighting will always play a purpose as a way of policing cheap shots and chippy play.
