I think Gary realized how bad last season almost went, realized he needed to put an impressive team on the ice ☺ He haa them playing well and my question is if the team stays red hot all season, would Gary be an option for an AHL asst coaching job?

I remember the season that Al Sims lead the komets to a championship by sweeping all three playoff rounds, 93. Now I know he was then offered the anaheim ducks asst coach and off he went. Blake do you know if that was Simss first year as head coach? Amyway, just being curious and hoping Gary can keep his career moving upwards, would be an inspiring story for sure!

Just a few rambling thoughts, (right Blake, LOL)!

Our old friend and former Komet, J.M. Rizk has signed with Rapid City.  What has happened to Rapid City?  They started out very strong but have dropped to the bottom of their division.  Injuries?  Anybody know?

David Franke probably feels like he is losing the battle to keep a grip on the wonderful success the Komets have enjoyed this season.  When your roster takes the hit(s) that this team has, it's got to be a little overwhelming.

With Heard and Pistilli called up, with Crowder injured plus the news regarding Schrock, it's got to make a GM want to pull his hair out.

Perlini is a +3 but Beebe is a -2.  Maybe my biggest disppointment is Severyn who has only played 7 games with 1 goal, 2 assists, and is a -3. It makes me wonder how healthy he really is.  I guess my point, and maybe my fear, is that I'm not sure how long this team can go on without either getting  some quality help or these players back from the AHL.  I would think at this time of year, it has to be very tough to replace the quality the Komets have lost without a trade or somebody coming home from Europe.  I know they would have never considered Rizk, but he would've been a good guy to get in front of the net and chip in some goals.

Heard?  Well he's played 9 games with 1 goal, 1 assist, and is a -2.  That doesn't seem too outstanding does it?  But Lake Erie is 7-1-1-1 in it's last ten games.  They have positioned themselves back into a playoff position so I'm not sure that they would want to mess up the "chemistry" right now.

Pistilli?  He's played 10 games with 1 goal, 2 assists, and is a -7.  Sounds shockingly poor until you look at Norfolk closely.  They are in last place in their division.  They have scored 59 goals, allowed 84, and (ready for this?) are a -130 as a team. So when you look at the stats, Pistilli comes out at about average for them.

Like I said, David Franke has a tough job right now...and I think I've rambled on enough. Right Blake?

1993 was Al's fourth year as the Komets' head coach.

What year did Robbie Laird win a championship and then get a job with Washington (NHL) and ended  up in Baltimore (I think)? For me the years run together. Help me out Blake! Thanks

Al's first season was 89-90 and he followed Robbie.

You know anonymous, I asked a similar question here a while ago...about Gary possibly leaving after this season and received a hushed no response from anyone...surprising.

Well, it's impossible to answer with any degree of intelligence. Do I think he'll someday coach in the NHL? Yes. At the absolute LEAST, he'll be somebody's assistant coach in charge of video scouting. He could do that right now and be extremely effective. As for the rest of it or higher? There's no possible way to say with any certainty.

There are plenty of former Komets coaches who I felt could have done things in the NHL whether it be coaching or scouting or front office or whatever. There was no way to know at the time they were here what or WHEN it would happen, and I'm not foolish enough to make that kind of prediction.
