Tailing the Komets

Szydlowski is POW

From an ECHL press release:

Shawn Szydlowski of the Fort Wayne Komets is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Dec. 15-21.

Szydlowski scored three goals and added three assists for six points in three games last week as the Komets’ unbeaten streak reached 11 games (10-0-1).

The 24-year-old had three points (2g-1a) in a 5-4 win at Kalamazoo on Friday, tallied an assist in a 3-1 victory over Indy on Saturday and added a goal and an assist in a 4-3 shootout win against Evansville on Sunday.

A native of St. Clair Shores, Mich., Szydlowski leads Fort Wayne, and is tied for fourth overall in the league, with 29 points (15g-14a) in 26 games.

Szydlowski has 58 points (27g-31a) in 95 career ECHL games with Fort Wayne and Gwinnett and he has added eight assists in 62 career American Hockey League games with Portland and Rochester.

Congrats to Szyd! This is a long overdue honor to one of the best players so far this season.

Allow me to echo the comments by WF.  Szydlowski has been a very pleasant surprise.  I wouldn't be surprised to see him move up. (Isn't he the third Komet to receive this award this season?  The other two (Heard and Pistilli) were both called up).

Whatever the communication was that occured between him and Graham last year has certainly renewed his scoring.

Here is a guy who, I feel, will either get his chance to play in the AHL or go to Europe next year.  Nothing more to prove at this level and we should enjoy his play while we still have the chance.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Hope Nagle and Faille are next. Szyd is fourth Komet to get POW.  Pistilli, Heard, and  Meurs were there previously and no other team has more than one POW.

True That

AHL bound in a week from what I hear. If that is true good for him if not then that stinks.
