Tailing the Komets

Fuel stuns Komets for second night in a row

The games against Indy proves all along that Goaltender Roman Will is inconsistent, and needs to be sent back to the AHL team and let them send him somewhere other than the Komets, but like the last few Seasons in the ECHL, the Management and Coach will never blame their Goaltenders that they fall in love with, no matter the writing on the wall with SOG and Goals allowed in. I will never pay again to see a Komet's game if I know Roman Will will be in net.

One of my favorite players, Mike Embach, seems to have disappeared.  In the last few games I've noticed many, many "behind the back" passes that, at best go nowhere, and at worst go to the opposing team.  Maybe he's passing to a spot on the ice where someone should be.  I don't know.  But the failure rate seems high enough to make sure he actually sees a teammate before just blindly throwing a pass.

After watching the last two games I believe the Komets are a much better team than Indy.  But Indy has something going for them that the K's don't.  That is they believe they will win.  When they fall behind they get mentally tougher.  When the komets get ahead they seem to get "tighter".

Roman Will (it looked to me) was fighting the puck both on Friday and Saturday.

I think the Komets really need a power forward.  One who attacks the net, gets in the goaltender line of sight, and causes chaos.  I thought that Rizk might fill that role, but he hasn't.  I am questioning the trade of Frazee for Lowry.  Lowry has showed me very little (and that includes the faceoff circle).  Higgs is usually nowhere to be found.

I think Thomas is an asset.  I think Quaile has done a very nice job.

There were times last night that the Komet penalty kill unit looked like they belonged in the NHL.  There were other times (sometimes on the very same shift) they seemed lost. Maybe a change up is needed.

This post is coming out too bleak.  They are a good team.  They need to remember how to play with "urgency" and use their talent.  By now, there is no excuse for a "systems" failure.  Everybody should know exactly what to do and where to be...so if players are ignoring the directions, then it's up to the "leadership" to take over.  Frankly, sometimes I'm left to wonder if everything is OK.

Sorry, but it's Goaltending, Goaltending and Goaltending that's the problem. When the Komets are outshooting the Fuel 2 to 1 and you still lose both games, that's nothing but a Goaltender issue, period! The komets were the only team in the ECHL last night to have 57 shots on goal, and still didn't win, and the Fuel had only 28 shots on goal and won! Roman Will let 5 pucks get past him, sorry again, but that's a Goaltender issue.

Did anybody notice last night when the Komets scored their second goal to make it 2-o, our great P.A. started to play that " Your Goaltender Sucks Song". You could see it made Indy mad and they kicked it in high gear and it changed the game. Great job Larry, keep playing that stupid song. I've been keeping track of every game you play it they keep losing. Also my 5 year old grandson started saying it now. I had to correct him for saying it because its not a nice thing to say. Thanks Larry! Any other thoughts on this issue?

The whole fan experience is just brutal. We have a relatively good hockey product in front of us but attendance has been subpar for the most part. Every whistle someone is being made fun of and ridiculed on the scoreboard. Me and many other people have agreed that it makes us feel uncomfortable and like we constantly have to be watching to make sure we aren't a victim. Every now and then is fine but sometimes it crosses the line. There is no energy and most of the can be attributed to the fact that's how it's set up. Anybody else have any thoughts? Blake? Maybe if enough people complain some changes will be made. Not likely though.

#1Fan,  I am sorry to say, but if you could hear the chant then I would have to say you are probably the minority with your thoughts.  I do understand what you are saying to a point, but it is a hockey game.  I would say that you did a good job as a parent to teach your kid what you want them to say an not to say.  I heard many things when I was a child that I knew darn well not to repeat.  I am thankful that I had good parents.

I would also say that goaltending has been an issue and also some defensive let downs.  Nagle has proven to be a much more consistent goalie when he is here long enough to be on his game that is.

Dear Anonymous...both wife and I have mentioned in writing to Mike Franke about the goalie sucks song and the fact that it really does P.O. the other team..however his response to us in writing and in person was, that it is what the fans want.  I do not think this will change anytime soon.....we do not like it.   To address BNYS 79....it is said by many more people than you think.....surely is loud and proud in the section we are in.

Hard to address the Will situation...he is what we have and I do not feel we should eject him and go with WHO as our primary Murdock and Saalfrank?...surely you jest?

As to Embach, it is going to take some time to readjust with Szyd and Martin back, lets be patient for a while?  Hopefully the losses and quirks are out of their system now and not come playoffs!

I would have to agree with Anonymous on the "fan being made fun of" on the scoreboard.  So I decided a long time ago that if my hair, or whether my face is trimmed properly, or anything else, that I would have my "message" finger ready.  I would love for them to challenge me by removing me from the game...because

I don't recall anything on my ticket, or in my season ticket agreement that gives anyone permission to use my image for any purpose.

I won't disagree with his frustration on the goaltending, either.  I think they've depended on Will too heavily.  One of the big problems last season was that Makarov and Reichert always seemed to give up one "soft" goal a game.

I've never liked the goaltending chant.  I never go along with it.  But as far as paternal responsibility...most who chant with it ARE the parents.  I also do not like the "it's all your fault" chant.  I've turned around to others and have told them (as they are chanting) that the game is not over.  How many times has everybody looked foolish?

And speaking of songs, our song Rock and Roll part 2 according to SI, is the worst goal song in the NHL.  Granted we cannot all be like Chicago's song-#1 rated, but man, we need to come up with something else.

Alan, many times I have chided people about their participating in that song and have received nothing but laughs.

To anybody who chants that song is classless. I think it is bush league. And Komets fans are the best fans in the ECHL? I think not.

Last night my wife was on the cam with the Barney song, a result of she wearing a purple coat. We had a good laugh along with the majority of those in attendance. How petty to make an issue out of something that is intended to bring some levity to the evening.

to those complaining about the people shown on the video board, if you don't want to be seen on the board looking a certain way or wearing a certain shirt...maybe you shouldn't go out in public looking that way or wearing that shirt. Nobody's seeing you on the board that wouldn't be able to see you otherwise. To those complaining about the songs, if you don't like it, don't participate. If it truly offends you that much, maybe you shouldn't attend a sport that has roots in hitting and fighting (you're probably a little too sensitive for that). Yes, the chants have a time and place and are sometimes over used. Complaining that it pumps up the other team though? Really? Do we want to play teams without any fight every night? Wouldn't that get boring?

Anonymous's scoreboard comment bears some weight..especially when they continually hit the same person. .it is not "petty." After a while it gets boring. .just like the goalie races!

Songs..why not have something that makes us unique. .a different song?..and seriously if you do not like the song or hitting stay home..let's be open about this. .

Man do we need some wins to move on to taking about the team and not the entertainment on the scoreboard!

I have no problem with the chants, I teach my kids there is a time and place for different types of actions. They know when we go to a Wildcat game we cheer for both teams no matter what and when we go to the MC we tend to cheer only for the Komets. Just as we hoot and holler at sporting events but at a school concert we clap respectfully.

With the scoreboard I will say they need to mix it up a little bit. I mentioned to the group I was with that I bet the cameramen have a check sheet of people to find, "I've got a Barney in upper 216!" The only "cam" I have a problem with is the pig out cam. You mean people eat food at sporting events? We should really throw them up in front of (sadly only) 6,000 to laugh at.

Out of the mouth of little joes brother comes wisdom. We lose acouple games in OT/SO and its time to hang the PA announcer because its all his fault!!!

actually, if a song song gets under an opponents skin, great...

I couldn't agree more with the last 6 posts.  They are all great points.  I don't think hockey is intended to be a soft sport that doesn't involve a little parenting to your kids.  I grew up watching the Komets my whole life and I can guarantee you that I didn't hear the word "sucks" for the first time at the Komets game.  You can keep your kids in a box if you wish and let them out when they turn 18 and see what happens.  This is the last I will post about this topic.  Lets get back to hockey!

I've read everyone's opinion on the video board, chants, etc.  I have to admit that I found each one interesting in that we all have a view.  Nobody is wrong, and I will still never take part in the chants (but that is my choice and everyone has to make their own choices).

After writing my post above, and after I submitted it, I have to confess something.  Here it is...when I posted that I would keep my "message" finger ready, I had time to reflect on this thought;  how can I criticize anybody for their language, actions, when I would be ready to "flip" a finger?  If I am honest with myself there wouldn't be ANY difference from the behavior that I, myself, am criticizing.  So instead of being a hypocrite I will re-think my actions.  I am grateful that this discussion took place because it mad me think a little harder (and clearer).

Now back to hockey.

I see where kalamazoo has released Brandon Warner.  I was hoping he'd be in the Kalamazoo lineup Friday night against the Komets.  Kalamazoo did the K's a favor Sunday by beating Toledo 4-2.  It helps to whittle down the "games in hand" that Toledo has.
