Tailing the Komets

Komets take Game 1

Ks pound on Wings to establish tone

Chase to call 500th playoff game tonight

And the other stuff that didn't fit in the stories:

Kalamazoo keeps going after Will Lacasse thinking he'll back down, but he never does... How about James Martin's check on Eric Kattelus? Ouch!... How many goals could Money Line have if they actually shot the puck?... How big was Kaleigh Schrock taking that penalty to stop Justin Taylor and prevent a goal in the second period? That would have made it 2-2 and who knows what would have happened... Roman Will made a couple of game-changing saves, and so did Joel Martin early, including that roller by Matthew Pistilli... How great was Pistilli, especially defensively? He was amazing in Game 1... Drew Daniels played an awesome game, too... After scoring three goals against the Komets last Friday, Dane Fox had four shots, no points and was minus-1... Those three minors by Patrick Kennedy sure hurt the Wings... The last time the Komets had an opponent take a penalty shot was May 7, 2012 by Davis of Wichita and Nick Boucher made the save... Tonight's outcome is even bigger than Game 1.

It was a great game and I'm really looking forward to tonight's game. The K's came out tough right from the opening face off. I thought Schrocky was going to get into it right off the bat! Lots of slashing, shoving and pushing going on. Yeah, that's playoff hockey alright! Keep up the good work! Go K's!!!

What a great display by the whole team last night.  I think that we showed what we can do with our speed and depth.  Kzoo will obviously try a few new wrinkles tonight but our speed advantage was on full display and you can only do so many things to negate that.  I thought we did a great job of being physical and finishing all of our checks.  That will take its toll, especially on their defensemen, throughout the series.

Both goalies played great.  We could have had 2 or 3 more goals easily.

I was critical of the move to let Krug go but I must say that our defense played very well and they were taking the body all night.  Sol really used his size and strength last night.  When he does that, he is a force out there.  Lacasse isn't flashy, but really played a solid game.

Little more pressure on the K's tonight to win due to the 2-3-2 format but now we know what we can do.  We have shown that we are faster, deeper, and can be more physical than they are.  Need to come out with the same intensity and physicality that we did last night.

Thanks for a very entertaining win last night!  Go K's!

Even if you had no "dog" in the fight, a pure hockey fan would've loved last night's game.  Plenty of hitting, quick skating, yet many steller defensive plays (made on both sides).  Lots of "chippiness" with end-to-end action.  Even a penalty shot.

Of course, to me, the game was even more entertaining because the Komets won.

Allowing the kalamazoo goal was the correct call.

Yet, I'm perplexed as to how Szydlowski got called for "diving".  From my view it looked as if the Kalamazoo player had his arms wrapped around Szydlowski and pulled him down.

Hard to question the lineup after a win, but I was wondering why Ouellet was the 10th forward and not Schrock.  Does coach change anything or does he go with the same lineup.  Roman Will was the difference maker and I hope he's pegged to play again tonight.  I thought Pistilli, Crowder, and Perlini played pretty well defensively (kind of surprised me, a little).  But that is exactly the attitude needed for a successful series.  Even got a goal.  Kalamazoo will have to pay attention to that line.

We've all witnessed the "first game of the week" lethargic play that sometimes has dogged this team.  That didn't occur last night and I'm hoping everyone is prepared for the Kalamazoo intensity that is sure to come with the opening faceoff.

Lake Erie has one more game (in Hamilton, Ontario).  The Komets next game (after tonight) will be Wednesday.  Will we see Heard before that game?

Speaking of the NHL-AHL, is anyone else a little surprised by the renewal of the Arizona affiliation with Springfield, Mass?  I was thinking that the NHL wanted to "clean up" those geographical oddities.
