Echoing the comments of Stick and Teresa.

You already know this Blake, but these are the times where your support of your mom and brother is terribly important.   Try to keep them busy, check in on them often.  Use your wisdom to know when and when not to.  Everyone grieves in their own way.  Everyone needs time to do it.

You also need time to grieve.  Allow yourself  the time and manner.

I've lost both parents, a sibling, and all aunts and uncles.  Not a day goes by that I don't miss them.  But faith gets us by.  The saying "time heals all wounds" sounds cruel and simplistic, but it has truth in it.  Death can take away our loved ones, but it cannot erase our memories of them.  Someday things will become evident and you will be reunited.

I know you have faith and this is the time to "lean" on it.

Did anyone else follow the SC-Toledo series? Down 0-3, to lose 4-3 in a triple overtime by a score of 1-0. Epic hockey.

Sure have, Anne!

One of the most surprising things to me was the amount of goals scored by both teams.  With Toledo (Lerg and Conway)  and South Carolina (Jakaitis), my guess would've been a very tight, low scoring series.   The games were tight, I guess, but only games 1 and 7 followed the script I imagined.  By the way, I was very impressed by Lalonde for playing both goaltenders ( and having Lerg rested for game 7).

As for the Komets:  I am hoping that they re-up with Colorado.  But if not Colorado, than with anyone not named the Columbus BlueJackets.  As far as players, there are a lot of ECHL contracted players that I hope will not be back.  Only two of the four veterans on the roster would I protect.

Depending on the affiliate and what they have in mind, I would protect Guggenberger and Nagle.  I would protect Leach, Daniels, and Martin on defense.  Up front I would protect Faille, Szydlowski, Crowder, and Pistilli. (Maybe Perlini).

I am hoping to see young, quick skating, forwards.  Some with size but not at the expense of disregarding a 5'10" player or two.  Whereas in the past I would be trying to "entice" established ECHL stars, I'm thinking that this may be the time to attract good college players.

Its old rhetoric, but guys that have good soft hands, guys that truly go to the net, and guys that can pass the puck tape to tape are the type I would be looking for.

Any thoughts, anyone??

What I am looking for is players with a decent skill set that are consistent, and play a full 60 minutes of hockey every game.  I can accept players slumps.  I can't accept players that just coast and only occasionally turn on the afterburners.  If they don't want to play 60 minutes of hockey, then they shouldn't be in this league.  Sloppiness and lackluster team/player performance has definitely been an ongoing problem in the past.  It's time for the coanch and management to make sure that it doesn't happen again in the future.

You know, there's usually a reason players are in the ECHL and not the AHL.

Blake, that is true.  But the idea is to get talented players that want to progress and move upward.  Not everyone gets a direct shot at the AHL or NHL.  Those are the players that we want to attract.  They may need training and coaching to get there.  Teaching them to play hard, intelligently, and to hustle should definitely be an expectation.

We should definately expect a full 60 minute commitment. Been a problem around here the last couple of years. Lack of full commitment put us in the hole in game 7 against Toledo.

The ECHL finals are a 3-3-1 format.  The only reason I see for this stupid format would be building availability. I hope it's the reason.

As Blake was saying fellas, not being able to go hard for a full game is a major reason they are in the ECHL. That also applies to the AHL as opposed to not making it in the NHL.  It is Double A hockey. You aren't going to get that commitment mainly because they can't do it physically or mentally.

That would be the only reason. It's ridiculous to expect buildings to hold prime open dates into June.  That would be lousy business, especially when you have no idea if your team is going to make it or not.

Good afternoon, who/suz!

Just wanted to take a moment to say that I agree with you regarding Kucera.  (I'm not sure why his name escaped me). He impressed me with his steady play.  I would agree about Thomas also (but I'm not sure the Komets hold his 'rights" any longer).  Maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, I agree with almost everything in your post.  June is an interesting month for teams in this league.

While the 3-3-1 schedule for the Kelly Cup finals is unusual, I'm almost willing to think that the Sting Rays wouldn't mind playing every game on the road!  Another win (4-3) as the visitor puts South Carolina in the lead.  Obviously my comment is "tongue-in cheek" (but South Carolina has been deadly on the road all year long).

Question for you all:  I find myself rooting for Allen because they are an old CHL team.  I always liked the league, the rules, and its style of play.  Some may wish that they do not win because they'd like to see the Komets become the first ex-CHL team to win the Kelly Cup and/or they do not wish to see Steve Martinson succeed.  Don't get me wrong, but as much as I respect Gary Graham, I sure wouldn't mind Martinson behind the Komets bench someday.  All he does is win.

So, who are you pulling for (and why)?

Does anyone have the record of this past season of the prior CHL teams against the ECHL teams?

Today is June the 1st.

This is the anniversary of my high school graduation from North Side some years back.

Funny that I almost forgot about it.  High school was the best six years of my life.
