Tailing the Komets

Tonight's preview, our video blog

The game preview is here, last night's game story is here, and our first video blog is here.  We'll get better at the video as I'm going after some professional help for the next one.

The books will not be on sale tonight

Due to a problem at the printer's in Tennessee, "Legends of the Komets" will not be available for sale at tonight's game. Hopefully it will be ready to go in time for the next home game. I'll keep you posted.

How the lines came together

Posted in: Komets

Some notes

* Jake Pence is going on the 30-day injured reserve list with some sore ribs. It's retroactive to last Saturday. He'll probably miss the first six games.

* The forward lines look like they are going to be Chaulk, Osman and Shafranov; Curadeau, Drouin and Hukalo and a combination of MacMillan, Legault, Gravelle and Varone. Oh, baby, that's going to be fun to watch that last one run over people.

* Defensive pairings are up in the air with the exception of Dupuis and Bertram. One of the reasons Al Sims is keeping eight D is because Warner, Pence and Holladay can all play forward.

Komets cut two

The Komets announced today that forwards J.P. Roy and Samuel Bergeron have been placed on waivers. The Komets' training camp roster is trimmed to 20 players including 10 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.

Something a little more positive

These are pictures of Indiana National Guard Staff Sergeant Mark Boner with his Komets flag in Iraq. He's currently trying to send back a video that maybe someday can be played on the new scoreboard.[gallery]

Scoreboard advertising

I'm probably opening a whole can of worms on this, but let's take this into a seperate post.

The cost to the teams to use the scoreboard is $500 per game. That's $20,000-plus per year for the Komets.

Today's game story, more on cuts

You can read it here.

And here's more on today's releases.

The Komets released eight players from their training camp roster Sunday morning and will have to make at least two more moves before Friday's season-opening game at Port Huron.

"It's not my favorite day of the year," Komets coach Al Sims said. "It's usually the worst. The one thing that was good about it was everybody said how first-class they were treated here and how they got a fair chance."

Komets cuts

The team released Vince Taratino, Ryan Potts, Adam Sinewitz, Kevin Matheson, Adam Shirley, Matthew Chromy, Tim Haun and Roy Stevens this morning. That brings the roster down to 22, and they'll need to move at least two more players before Friday's game.

Thank goodness the exhibition season will be over soon

Not a ton of life to this game so far. It's 1-1 after two periods. The Komets hvae had the better chances for the most part. Jason Beckett is playing his first preseason game because of sore knees and looks solid if a little rusty. You can tell he knows what he's doing out there. Rick Varone continues to impress with his hustle and nose for the puck. Plus, he hits. Most of the veterans are using this game to get in shape so there's not a lot of hitting or intensity. The Komets had a line of P.C.

What did you see tonight?

I was doing football so I just looked at the box score. Anybody go to the game tonight? What did you see?

Anybody interested in IHL fantasy hockey?

I received this email today. I'm not vouching for it because I don't know anything about it and I'm not a fantasy player, but just presenting what they sent me.

Hello,

Still haven't heard

Who did you guys like last night? You can't tell me you didn't notice Maxime Gravelle. What did you think of the scoreboard?

I talked to Luch

He's in town visiting his girlfriend. The Komets and he are talking, but neither side thinks it's going to result in much, mostly because they think he's got other opportunities. Both sides said they are not opposed to him returnng, but he's waiting for an official offer from an AHL team, and is expecting to head home to Mississaugua either Friday or Saturday.

Komets General Manager David Franke also said the team won't be making any cuts until Sunday or Monday. They want to give everybody at least two games to show what they can do.

What do you think?

Who impressed you from tonight's exhibition game? What did you like, what did you not like?

I thought the game was actually pretty boring.
