A good omen

Turned off 94 onto 69 about 2 a.m. tonight and in the eastern sky was a 66 percent moon and it was orange! How can you beat that?

Now, on the glovehand of Isaac Reichmuth: The Komets heard he might have dinged his glovehand in one of the pileups in Game 3 in Fort Wayne. Not sure whether it was true or not, but if the FW fans in attendance tonight watched warmups closely, the Fury shooters didn't go anywhere near his glovehand the entire time. It was almost like they were afraid to shoot at it like it might give something away.

This is over

The Komets are up 4-1 and are out-shooting the Fury 25-15. This is a completely dominating defensive performance. I'd guess that of Muskegon's 15 shots, 12 have from from the top of the  circle or higher. The Komets are challenging them all over the ice and they are also keeping their cool. This looks like a typical Fort Wayne mid-season performance.

Fast start

The Komets are up 3-0 about 3/4ths of the way through the first period. They chased Isaac Reichmuth from the Muskegon goal after only six shots. There's a reason why they were so successful I'll share later. Aquino, Curadeau and Hodgman have the goals so far. Muskegon only has one shot on Kevin Reiter without about five minutes left in the period.

45 minutes to faceoff

And already we've got a very sizeable contingent of Fort Wayne fans. Beautiful day for a drive up here.

Kevin Reiter is in goal for the Komets and Isaac Reichmuth for the Fury.

John Searle is the referee tonight so watch and see if the sticks get up early and go uncalled.

Found some more interesting stats. Muskegon is 4 of 17 on the pp in Muskegon and all four goals were scored five-on-three. The Fury are 6 of 38 overall, meaning they are 1 of 30 with a regular one-man advantage.

The Komets are 2 of 25 in Muskegon and a pretty respectible 4 of 19 at home.

For those going up Saturday

Be sure to order your tickets on-line. I was told tonight it could be close to a sellout.

Great job tonight

Why am I not surprised some of you didn't play fair? Nice job, though I couldn't believe some of the things Justin was saying about you at the time. Who was that guy from Muskegon? Congrats to Steve Fletcher for winning and to the rest of you for having the guts to get out there and have fun.

I'm also totally kidding about what Justin said. It was actually Ben Smith.

Some notes

Tonight's game will be shown on Comcast Ch. 55 and Verizon Ch. 25 at 7 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday.

Craig Welker is the ref tonight.

Terry Marchant has been scratched tonight and Evgeny Saidachev put into the lineup.

Nick Boucher is starting in goal for the Komets, Clayton Pool for Muskegon.

No further punishment for Curadeau

According to Komets president Michael Franke, Mathieu Curadeau is not facing any further discipline from the league for his spearing major during Wednesday's game.

This is one frustrated group

The Komets are very frustrated, mostly with themselves I think. One of 13 for the power play, but they killed themselves with too many really bad penalties. Muskegon just built a wall around Clayton Pool and the Komets couldn't get to any rebounds or deflections in front. As hard as it is to say, Muskegon simply wanted this win more. The Fury were the hungrier team and was more willing to pay the price.

We'll see what happens Friday.

This series keeps getting stranger

Seven goals in the period as the Komets lead 4-3. I don't think there was a thing Kevin Reiter could have done on any of the Muskegon goals, and I'm guessing coach Al Sims felt the same way as he called a timeout halfway through the period. There were three goals in 20 seconds, four in 44 seconds. Komets had six power plays in the first period, including starting the second period with 1:32 of a two-man advantage.

Who knows what's going to happen next. Probably not even The Shadow.
