Tailing the Komets

Still even more

And then I'm going home.

One more thing

Along with the theme of getting Duhart:

This continues a long Komets' tradition of signing players who played great against them. Who are your favorite examples:

Mine: Marc Boileau, Scott Gruhl, Mitch Messier, Brent Gretzky and Vladimir Tsyplakov.

There are also a bunch of those where didn't work quite as well. Give me your best of those, too: Paul Jerrard, Chad Grills, Tracy Egeland

Some stuff

Just because I'm so busy I can only spend a few minutes right now.

1. Duhart is thrilled be picked by FW: "I love the franchise, the rink and I love playing there. One thing my wife and I were talking about was the winning tradition there. It's making the playoffs and making a run at it.''

2. Komets President Michael Franke, "We're looking for some character and personality and I have felt for the past few years that our team lacked personality. He will bring some of that to our team. He can just flat-out score, and we need some offensive help.''

Draft stuff

Komets' picks
1. Kevin Reiter, G, Missouri
2. Jim Duhart, F, Missouri
3. Brad MacMillan, F, Missouri
4. Matt Elich, F, Roanoke STEAL OF THE WHOLE DRAFT
5. Paul Falco, F, Missouri

I personally LOVE This draft. I thought Elich was the most talented forward the Komets played against last year. He has incredible skills. Reiter IS the next Frenchy, and you all know how I feel about Duhart. I think they did as well as they possibly could have hoped.

They also lost Josh Tataryn in the expansion draft.

Everybody needs friends

Expansion draft for Bloomington and dispersal draft tomorrow for Roanoke, Motor City and Missouri at least and possibly Adirondack. It's awful quiet on the Frostbite front. Who would you like to see the Komets pick?

Oh, and Jungle Money, Tony E and Skate need friends. Who wants to be their friend?

Just talked to David Franke

On a few things:

The Komets definitely want Colin Chaulk back and he said they told him that three weeks ago. They are negotiating some contract points.

``We're looking to make a couple of adjustments, but it's something we've talked to him about and he's fully aware of,'' Franke said. "There's nothing to comment on that.''

What about the rumors of cutting his contract?

Starting lineup

Give me your "all-time'' Komets UHL team with 10 forwards, six defense and two goalies. Give me lines of three and defensive pairings. Argue amongst yourselves until you can get it down to 18 generally accepted players.

What do you want to talk about?

Let's leave the coach, owner, player bashing to a minimum. We've pretty much said all that can be said and it's obvious that debate can't be advanced yet.

So pick your topic.

The fight game

OK, this ought to spark enough discussion here to last a month, and I'm telling you upfront I'm going to play the devil's advocate role. No name-calling unless it is directed at or from Hit Somebody, whom I think enjoys it. LOL. Play nice and I think we can have a lot of fun with this, but I'm guessing this discussion might get quite emotional. Here goes:

Does fighting hurt hockey as a sport in terms of legitimacy?

An idea from Tony

If you had the money to spend, where would you put an expansion team? It can be in any league, but of course we're particularly interested in the UHL. Take into consideration the city's history with minor league sports, facilities, proximity, etc. Because you are the ones putting up the money, we'll assume that you all have an extra $3 million to lose. LOL.

Any ideas?

And I still haven't heard a compelling reason why the league offices should have to move. Give me some sound financial reasons.

Adirondack is up against it

The mayor of Glens Falls and Barry Melrose came up with a plan of asking 1,500 fans to pay $1,000 each to keep the team going. I'm not even sure that could be done here. Do you think we could find 1,500 people to do that if we had to?

That's an awful lot of hair product.

Oh, crap, who am I to be making fun of someone else's hair. At least he had hair.

Player meetings

Komets President Michael Franke said Thursday that General Manager David Franke has met with players Kevin St. Pierre and Colin Chaulk, but nothing has been decided about next season.

``Anybody that we're talking to right now we tell them to just be patient and we'll get back to them after the league meetings,'' Franke said. ``Let's figure out the lay of the land first in the league.''

donating money, or your time on the 25th to walk with my team, please
let me know. My email is Kmtshcky17@hotmail.com.

Who do you like?

Kalamazoo vs. Danbury.

Isn't it interesting that the two highest-paid teams are in the finals?

I sure like Danbury's goaltending, and I wonder how the layoff is going to affect Kalamazoo which has had it pretty easy to this point. I think Kalamazoo will win a road game so I'm saying the Wings in 6.

What's it going to look like?

As expected, Roanoke is dead, Richmond is moving to Chicago and Motor City is looking for new digs. How do you feel about Lansing? That's probably a long shot. They have to know by next week when the schedule info goes to the schedule maker. Let's face it, if the UHL loses Richmond and Roanoke and if MC is able to move somewhere, the UHL is much better off than last year, even if MC isn't able to relocate because travel costs should be cut considerably.

What would you do?

The Komets have their 55th season coming up and they sometimes like to tweak their uniforms a bit on such ocassions. What would you like to see?

I've always been a fan of the 1963 star jerseys from when they won their first Turner Cup with. I've also always been partial to having colored shoulders instead of the white. I think the orange shoulders with the black road uniform would look pretty cool. I've never been a big fan of Captain Komet, though. Not sure why.

Here's some examples of what the Ks have worn over the years.
