Komets General Manager David Franke said Tuesday the team is open to a possible trade to add more offense, but nothing is imminent. The preference would be for a defenseman who can move the puck. Franke said he believes there's plenty of talent on the roster to contend once everyone gets healthy.
Franke did say the Komets are considering bringing in college or junior players, and the team has been in contact with Turner Cup playoffs MVP Justin Hodgman who has 19 goals and 51 points in 67 games this year with Erie of the OHL. He's also minus-29. Yikes!
"I've talked to him and talked to his agent,” Franke said. “They have a better team this year and they'll get in the playoffs. They know we are interested, and they are somewhat interested. We'll have to see how his season goes the rest of the way.”
If Hodgman joins the Komets this season, he must play six games with the team before the end of the regular season on April 11. The IHL eliminated the amateur status option after last season. The IHL trade deadline is 3 p.m., March 12.
* Olivier Legault may not be ready to play this weekend after injuring a hip in practice on Tuesday. Vince Tarantino's status continues to be day-to-day, but he returned to practice Tuesday, Komets coach Al Sims said.
* The Komets have reviewed the tape of the last-second goal in Kalamazoo on Saturday and say they believe referee Scott Hoberg made the correct call.
"Kalamazoo is so dark and the tape can only be so good, but it looks likeI think the puck went in before the light came on," Sims said. "
* There's been no word from the league yet about any possible discipline regarding the slash Mathieu Curadeau received Friday night.
