Komets lose 5-2

The Fort Wayne Komets hung on as long as they could Tuesday morning before losing 5-2 at Muskegon. The Komets trailed 3-2 going into the third period despite out-shooting the Lumberjacks 28-19 but gave up two goals in the last five minutes.

“We played well, especially the first two periods,” Komets coach Al Sims said. “We're still struggling to score obviously.”

The Komets finished with 41 shots and the Lumberjacks 29, but Muskegon goaltender Clayton Pool made 39 saves. In a school-day matinee, the teams combined for only three power-play attempts, and the Lumberjacks scored on both of their tries.

The Fort Wayne goals came from Konstantin Shafranov and Dominic Osman. Tim Haun started in net for the Komets.

“Their goaltending was really good,” Sims said. “Pool got hit with a lot of shots. We let in a soft third goal that really cost us. We can't give up soft goal with the lineup we have right now. We need great goaltending and we haven't gotten it the last two games.”
