FINAL STEP REACHED AS RECORD BOOK AND TROPHY NOW COMPLETE
ROCHESTER, MI--- International Hockey League (IHL) announced Wednesday that the engraving of all 57 previous champions on the Turner Cup is now complete. The IHL has continued the tradtion by including every player, coach and staff member who has won the Turner Cup, dating back to the 1945-46 season.
“We are proud to honor the history that is involved with the International Hockey League by recognizing the accomplishments of all members involved from the very start,” stated Paul L. Pickard, IHL President/CEO.
Embracing the traditon, the defending champion Fort Wayne Komets will have the Turner Cup on display in the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum display case for the rest of the regular season.
The Turner Cup is awarded annually to the International Hockey League playoff champion. The Turner Cup was placed in competition in 1945 by the league's Board of Governors. The Cup has been awarded since the Detroit Atuo Club won the first league championship on March 2, 1946. TheTurner Cup has been the definitive award for the International Hockey League for 57 seasons.
