Komets coach Al Sims was much happier with his team's pefromance Saturday night after the Komets beat Dayton 3-2 on the road.
``We played really well defensively,'' Sims said. ``Timmy (Haun) was good on the few chances we did give up, and all the veterans really came to play tonight. We played really well. I don't think they got in our end once over the last minute and a half.''
The Komets got a quick lead on Colin Chaulk's goal off the back of Dayton goaltender Ryan Mior 40 seconds after the opening faceoff. After getting hit with a vicious high stick from Dayton's Pierce Norton in the first period, P.C. Drouin came back to score in the second period and give the Komets a 2-0 lead.
Chaulk scored again midway through the third period to give the Komets a 3-1 lead before Dayton scored 30 seconds later, but the Gems couldn't threaten Haun after that. Haun made 33 saves as the Komets were out-shot 35-28.
``We wanted to get three out of six points this weekend so the guys knew this was a must-win for us,'' Sims said. ``They came out very focused.''
