From a Komets press release
The Fort Wayne Komets in conjunction with Three Rivers Credit Union and in preparation for their 60th Anniversary Season are in the midst of one of the most creative and aggressive social media campaigns in the history of Fort Wayne Sports and Entertainment. The “Find the
Spaceman” campaign's goal is to give away 60 pairs of season tickets in the 60 days leading up to opening night. The contest began on August 23rd and will conclude on Friday, October 21st. The contest is titled "Find the Spaceman where each day a 12-inch tall spaceman is hidden at a predetermined location in Allen County with a hint and picture given to assist in the finding of the spaceman. Hints are given via the Komets' official Twitter page and can be found at twitter.com/FWKomets with @3RiversFCU also posting the given hints.
Hints can be given at any time throughout the day encouraging those playing along to check in frequently. Those who are lucky enough to find a spaceman will receive a pair of 2011-2012 Komet Season Tickets. Winners each redeem their one-of-a-kind coded “Spaceman” at Three Rivers Credit Union's Main Branch on Northland Blvd. off Lima Road.
Three Rivers Communication Coordinator, Daniel Kinnaley, has been thrilled with the fan interaction, “The response has been awesome, seeing the stories and pictures posted on Twitter and Facebook, and seeing things like the Spaceman Tales Facebook page show how well this resonates with the community. 3Rivers is an organization built on community, and we are looking forward to seeing something that's started on social media end with more Komets' fans in the seats this season.”
The contest is only three weeks old and already receiving a great amount of participation. Currently more than 1,000 views of the picture given each day are seen with each spaceman being found no longer than 24 hours after the hint was sent.
Recent locations have taken fans to historic sites throughout the Fort Wayne area, from places like the Embassy Theatre and Baker Street Train Station to the Towpath Trail on the River Greenway. On Day 12 the hint of “Steam Locomotive” was given, which led Twitter followers looking in several locations including the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. Fort Wayne Rails tweeted, “Had a lot of visitors today," they Googled Fort Wayne Steam Locomotive. All said, “We never knew this was here.” The location for that day was the Pufferbelly Trail, which is a historic nickname for a steam locomotive.
Monday, September 19th begins “Park Week” where each spaceman will be placed in a different park within Fort Wayne and Allen County. The difference between this week and all others is that no text will be given for the hint, only a picture. The picture could include anything from a part of a sign, to a slide, or anything else that may make that given park unique.
