The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Fort Wayne Komets center Martin Gascon has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Rockford IceHogs goaltender Frederic Cloutier has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 19th, 2006.

Gascon completed the week with seven points (3g, 4a) and a plus-6 rating in three games played.  He dished out three assists and was a plus-5 in Friday's 8-1 victory vs. Elmira.  On Saturday, he registerd a “hat trick” (3g) and tallied one assist in the 6-2 win vs. Chicago.  Prior to his back-to-back multi-point games, Gascon had scored four points in nine games this season.  Before scoring his “hat trick” on Saturday, he had not scored a goal since opening night when he netted the game-winning goal in the 8-3 victory vs. Quad City.  The 25-year-old native of Ville St. Pierre, Quebec is playing in his first professional season.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Elmira left wing Yevgeny Lazarev, Flint center Terry Marchant, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon center Todd Robinson, Port Huron center Mark Cadotte, Quad City forward Luke Stauffacher, and Rockford center Preston Mizzi.

Cloutier finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA), and a .964 save percentage (SPCT).  He made 25 saves in Wednesday's 5-1 win vs. Fort Wayne.  He stopped 29 shots in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Kalamazoo.  He was 1:54 shy of recording his first shutout of the season before allowing a late goal to the K-Wings.  The 25-year-old native of Saint-Honore, Quebec currently has a 6-4-0 record with a 2.93 GAA that ranks sixth among UHL goaltenders.  Cloutier has won six of his last eight starts.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's Kris Tebbs, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre, Kalamazoo's Tom Askey, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, and Quad City's Jason Tapp.
