Frenchy wins again and other notes

The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Monday that Elmira Jackals forward Brent Cullaton has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Fort Wayne Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 5, 2006.

Cullaton completed the week with six points (2g, 4a) and plus-2 rating in two games played.  It was the first two games of the season for the Elmira captain since being sidelined with an injury to start the year.  On Friday, he had two assists in the second period of the 4-2 loss to Muskegon.  He tallied four points (2g, 2a) in Saturday's 7-4 victory over previously unbeaten Muskegon. Cullaton had a shorthanded goal and a power play goal in the contest.

The native of Petawawa, Ontario celebrates his 32nd birthday next week.  He currently ranks tied for fifth in the UHL with four power play assists.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington forward Jon Jankus, Chicago center Mike Brolsma, Flint forward Jan Eriksson, Fort Wayne left wing J.C. Ruid, Kalamazoo center Kory Karlander, Muskegon center Todd Robinson, Quad City forward Justin Chwedoruk, and Rockford center Preston Mizzi.

St. Pierre finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average (GAA), a .972 save percentage (SPCT),  and one shutout. On Friday, he made 35 saves in regulation and turned away
three of four shooters in the shootout to help the Komets to a 3-2 shootout victory. He stopped all 34 Port Huron shots in the 6-0 win on Saturday to register the shutout.  It was the 22n UHL shutout for St. Pierre which adds to his all-time league record.

The 31-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Quebec is riding a five-game winning streak and currently leads UHL goaltenders with a 2.15 GAA and a .933 SPCT.  It is the second consecutive week that he has
earned the UHL weekly award.

Other goaltenders nominated  for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jeff Reynaert, Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's Kris Tebbs, Flint's Jason Muzzatti, Kalamazoo's Tom Askey, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Quad City's Jason Tapp, and Rockford's Frederic Cloutier.

OTHER NOTES
* The shutout was St. Pierre's record 19th Komet career shutout and a UHL career record 22nd shutout. It was also St. Pierre's 6th straight victory.

* Komet leaders.....J.C. Ruid (LW) 8 goals, 15 points, 3gwg.....Bruce Richardson (C) 12 assists.....Richardson +5, Mario Larocque (D) +5, leads UHL defensemen with 5 goals.....Kevin Hansen (D) 52 pim.

* Special K's.....the Komets lead the UHL with 21 power play goals in 74 chances after 8 games for a league-best 28.4% rating. The Komets penalty is second best after surrendering only 8 power play goals in 70 times shorthanded for an 88.6% rating.

* Streaking Komets......J.C. Ruid (LW) extended his point scoring streak to 6 games (7g, 6a).....Bogdan Rudenko (RW) pointed in each game of the week for a 3-game point streak (1g, 3a).....Kevin St. Pierre (G) is riding a 5 game winning streak.....Komets 4-game home win streak, 6-game win streak.

Looking for 500.....Komet center and assistant coach Bruce Richardson has appeared in 498 career games. Saturday could be number 500 when the Komets host Flint at 7:30pm.

* Scoring has been plentiful for the Komets this season as they are currently second in the UHL with 38 goals on the season.  During the six-game win streak, the club has outscored the opposition 32-12.  The team has also won a couple of close contests as they claimed two shootout victories during the fourth weekend of the season.
