Extras from Rockford

That we couldn't squeeze into the paper.

* The Komets are now 8-4-1 in their last 13 Friday the 13th games. How spooky is that? They are 16-14-2 overall. Yes, I need to get a life.

* To get to the 19-man roster limit, the Komets put Kelly Miller on the 7-day IR, David Besner on the 10-day IR and Jonas Gabrielsen on team suspension. Martin Gascon was a healthy scratch.

* Daniel Goneau scored the first goal of the game despite missing two days because of the flu. He looked very weak in warmups, too.

``The tank is empty, let me tell you that. I caught a virus and for two days I didn't eat or practice. Today I ate a little bit just to get something in my stomach. I feel all right, but I had no jump out there, and that's why Pat didn't play me that much.''

* Center Bruce Richardson needs a new knee pad. He has a two-inch dent in one after blocking a shot in the second period. He played throughout the third period with it.

``If I didn't play 45 minutes today I didn't play one. In the first period we had to relax a little because we were panicking, but when we got settled we made some plays. We made a couple mistakes but we made some good plays, too.''

*The B2 Network didn't work Friday night because of a parts problem in Rockford. There were similar problems in Flint.

* J.C. Ruid had fun in his return to Rockford where he played two years ago as the IceHogs' captain.

``It was interesting. It felt good coming hear and having the fans yell some things to me. I'm definitely flattered that they appreciate the work I put in here a couple of years ago. I have a lot of respect for the town and the organization.''

He even went nose-to-nose with current IceHogs captain Nathan Lutz.

``Lutz is a great guy, and we'll keep in touch for a while. He plays hard, and we both love to compete.''

* The Komets caught a break with the schedule. Because it is Homecoming at Illinois State, there were no hotel rooms available in Bloomington so they stayed overnight again in Rockford. Bloomington played in Muskegon Friday night and had to drive home all night. It's about three hours from Rockford to Bloomington.

* Finally, from Goneau: ``Sometimes it looks like we're running a lot because we're trying to do what Pat wants us to do. We're just not familiar with it. As the season goes along, it's going to be relax and then jump when it's time. Wait until we get familiar with the system and with the players and it's going to be way easier.''
