Bogie signs with Columbus

Blue Jackets Sign Center Eric Boguniecki

Boguniecki has tallied 34-42-76 in 167 career NHL games
with Florida, St. Louis and Pittsburgh

 

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Eric Boguniecki (pronounced
BOH-guhn-ih-kee) to a two-way National Hockey League - American Hockey League
contract, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Tuesday. As
is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

 

Boguniecki, 31, is a veteran of 167 career NHL games and has netter 34 goals
and 42 assists for 76 points with 97 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus
rating of plus-14 with Florida, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. He spent the 2005-06
season with St. Louis and Pittsburgh and accumulated 6-10-16 with 33 penalty
minutes in 47 games.

 

The New Haven, Conn., native spent parts of eight seasons in the AHL/IHL and
tallied 151-182-333 and 664 penalty minutes in 335 games. He played under Blue
Jackets head coach Gerard Gallant when Gallant was an assistant coach with the
Fort Wayne Komets during the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, as well as with the
Louisville Panthers during the 1999-2000 season.

 

After posting 30-40-70 with 156 penalty minutes in 73 games during the
2000-01 season with Louisville and Worcester, Boguniecki won the Les Cunningham
Plaque as the AHL's Most Valuable Player. In 2001-02, he netted 38-46-84 and 181
penalty minutes and was named to the AHL All-Star first team. He also
represented the United States at the 2000 World Championships and had 0-1-1 and
two penalty minutes in seven games.

 

Originally signed as a free agent by the Florida Panthers on July 7, 1999,
Boguniecki played four seasons with the University of New Hampshire. He recorded
78-91-169 and 232 penalty minutes in 142 games for the Wildcats and was named to
the 1996-97 Hockey East All-Star team his senior year.
