Komets play 40 minutes and win

Despite a horrible first period, the Komets still had plenty of offense to beat the Bloomington PrairieThunder 6-4 at Memorial Coliseum on Saturday before 9,464 fans.

Couple of things the Komets are sure to work on this week: Penalty kill and moving the puck from their own offensive zone. They gave up five power-play goals in two games this weekend and Bloomington and Muskegon both showed the Komets need work on turnovers in their own end.

The positives: There's definitely a rivalry brewing with Bloomington. Halelujah! About time there was some bad blood with somebody. Travis Granbois got a game misconduct at the end of the game for throwing a water bottle on the ice, and Kevin Bertram got a misconduct.

Rick Varone is this year's secret weapon, sort of like Mathieu Curadeau last year. Nobody knew anything about this kid coming in, but he creates lots of space for Colin Chaulk and Konstantin Shafranov out there with his speed and his physical play. He also might have the best hands on the team.

Who does Brad MacMillan remind you of? For you oldtimers, he reminds me of Dale Baldwin in that he has yet to fight anybody who is the same height he is. Baldy never fought anybody that he wasn't looking up at, and MacMillan

Looks like Todd Robinson is fully awake now. He had another five points tonight to go with his four last night for Muskegon.
