Good news!

Nick Boucher comes off IR on Wednesday, Konstantin Shafranov is eligible Monday, Rick Varone can go on Tuesday and Brad MacMillan's 15-game suspenion is done.

Other than that, I got nothing else positive for you as the Komets lost to Port Huron 2-0 on Saturday night. It had been four years since the Komets had been shut out on the road before their game Dec. 5 at Dayton, and now it has happened in back-to-back road games for the first time since November, 2004. Yikes!

Only 23 shots on goal Saturday night. After a 7-2-0 start, the Komets have gone 5-6-1, scoring only 26 goals.

The rough part of Saturday night's game might not be the loss in the standings, but the loss in goal as netminder Tim Haun received an attempt-to-injure match penalty for a high sticking foul in the final minute. That means Haun is suspended indefinitely pending review by International  Hockey League Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones on Monday.

Earlier in the third period, Haun had received a roughing call. Port Huron's Derek Patrosso was called for interference on the very next play, along with a misconduct, while Haun received the match penalty and a fighting major for tangling with Port Huron goaltender Larry Sterling.

Parris Duffus, who was signed earlier in the day as the emergency goaltender, finished up in net for the Komets but did not face any shots. Former emergency goaltender Tyler Sims has signed as an emergency back-up goaltender with Elmira in the ECHL.

The Komets are averaging just 2.61 goals per game this season, while giving up a league-low 2.52 per game. Take away a pair of shootout goals the league counts toward the Komets totals and it's actually 2.52 goals for and 2.52 goals against right now. The Komets' all-time record for lowest goals against average is 2.37 in 2003-04 so that tells  you how well they are playing defensively. To put the lack of offense in perspective, the Komets' record for fewest goals per game in a season is 2.83 in 1956-57!

To put it quite simply, the guys who are making all the money on this team have to be the ones to find a way to put the puck in the net.
