The Fort Wayne Komets missed a chance to increase their lead and then lost it Saturday night. The Muskegon Lumberjacks scored three goals during a six-minute span in the third period to beat the Komets 3-1 in the final exhibition game for both teams.
Thanks to Keith Rodger's first-period power-play goal off a Colin Chaulk assist, the Komets led 1-0 until there were about 10 minutes left in the third period.
"We out-shot them 37-21, but we didn't finish very well," Komets coach Al Sims said. "Leo (Thomas) had a couple of breakaways from our blue line in and didn't get anything out of them. We could have been up 2, 3 or 4-0."
The Muskegon goals were by Brian Bicek, Matt Robertson and David Rohlfs. Komets goaltender Tim Haun made nine saves on nine shots, and Nick Boucher stopped nine of 12 shots against him.
Sims said defenseman Kevin Bertram played well for the Komets' defense, and "Up front we didn't get any scoring from the forwards. Nobody really stood out."
">Sims said he'll make cuts to his 27-man roster on today.
