No conspiracy theories, please

It has nothing to do with who has a better shot to make the team.

According to David Franke, there's a simple reason why some of the players had nameplates and others did not. The Komets didn't find out until over the weekend that Dayton would have to wear its home uniforms for the game. The Komets do not have a road exhibition uniform so they scrambled to use their regular road jerseys. For players who signed earlier in the summer, the road jerseys came in with nameplates on them, but the guys who signed later in the summer, like within the last two weeks, did not have nameplates on them and there was not enough time to get them on. They also had to take the nameplate off Hukalo's jersey so Jeff Wheeler could wear it. They basically had to come up with eight blank jerseys in a hurry.

Also, Travis Whitehead has been released by Norfolk and is on his way to Toronto to pick up his stuff and head to Fort Wayne. He might be here by Sunday.
