Aaron L. Luther fought in the Civil War as a private in the Army's 19th Regiment. He was the son of Israel Luther (1810-1888) and Laura Purdy (1813-1888). He enlisted in August 1862 and was a member of Company A.
Aaron was on the battlefield the day of Dec. 31, 1862, when the enemy attacked. He died of gunshot wounds during that battle. He would have been about 21 years old.
Aaron was buried at the Stones River National Battlefield cemetery near Murfreesboro, Tenn. At the time of his death, Aaron's family lived in Washington Township, Allen County.
Israel Luther enlisted in the 11th Battery, Indiana Light Artillery, during the Civil War. He entered the war a private and exited the war a private. Israel enlisted Nov. 11, 1864. He was discharged in July 1865.
Israel was born March 2, 1844. He died of natural causes March 1, 1912, in Allen County. He married Rachel Hatfield on March 31, 1870. They had four sons: Bertram Carrolton, James Clarence, Franklin Willard and Percy Walter.
Many descendants of Franklin Willard and Jennie Golden Luther live in Allen and Noble counties. Children of Frank and Jennie include: Walter Golden Luther, Arthur Paul Luther, Georgianna Luther Braun, Irma Louise Luther Lux, Ruth Myrtle Luther Bouse, James Franklin Luther, Rosella Rachel Luther Plumb and Martha Ellen Luther Lemmon.
Israel is buried in Eel River Cemetery, section E, row 10.

Seth White was born June 25, 1840, in Linn County, Mo. At age 11, he was listed in the 1850 census in this location. He enlisted as a private in Company B, 12th Infantry Regiment, Kan., on Aug. 15, 1861. He mustered out June 30, 1865, in Little Rock, Ark., after being wounded. He married May 17, 1866, to Nancy King at Lecompton, Kan. They had four children. Seth White was 5 feet, 10 inches, light complexion, gray eyes, auburn hair and a farmer. White died July 27, 1874. He is buried in the Lowell, Kan., cemetery in Cherokee County. His widow, Nancy, received a Civil War pension. My husband, Tom, and I visited his gravesite. White was my great-great-grandfather.

John Newton Thomas was born Aug. 27, 1842, and died March 19, 1924. He was great-grandfather Thomas to Nora Hakes Brindle Farber, age 90. He was great-great-grandfather to Thomas E. Brindle, my husband.
Thomas served in Co. K147 of the Ohio Infantry. His service ended by reason of a general nervous disability as a result of typhoid fever. He married Anna Elizabeth Myers. She was born July 20, 1843, and died Aug. 25, 1922. They farmed and are buried in Portland. They had a large family. Nora is my lovely mother-in-law.
