The crowd was small but steady to see the Civil War encampment at Lindenwood Cemetery on Saturday. High temperatures and a blazing sun might have deterred visitors, but the re-enactors seemed unfazed. They spent their downtime in the shade talking politics and swapping tales of adventures at past re-enactments. Representatives from the Indiana 44th and 30th Regiments camped through the weekend to inform visitors about the Civil War veterans buried in the cemetery, but the highlight for most visitors seemed to be the firing of the cannon. This involved a five-man crew, including the commanding officer. There was a lull in the artillery demonstration during a graveside funeral. Private Mike Clay of the Indiana Regiment said the event differed greatly from last year's, which was cold and rainy. According to wane.com, Saturday's temperature of 97 degrees in Fort Wayne set a record high for June 4, surpassing the old record of 96 degrees in 1934.
