I just talked to him and he's in Fort Wayne tonight.
``I'm unofficially here and I'm thrilled about it. I love it here.''
He's getting his physical done tomorrow, and he's confident there won't be any problems.
``The knee is great,'' he said. ``I saw the doctors in New York, and I'm cleared to go and everything is healed. I'm actually in better shape now becuase I had time for everything else to heal. I don't feel my age which is good.''
He actually sat out a year and a half which he was absolutely awful, but also good because it made him appreciate things a lot more.
As for being released by Utah, he said it was a salary cap/roster/guys sent down from Calgary thing, and he left on good terms.
``I didn't plan to come back to Fort Wayne, but as soon as my phone rang and I saw it was David, it made perfect sense,'' he said. ``My phone was ringiging quite a bit all day yesterday, but there was only one call I was really excited about.

Snuff, how many games have you actually seen Henley play in person?
Gee, Hit, and yet you do the exact same thing with other topics. Hmmmmm.
youth, speed, youth, speed, youth, speed and so on and so on and so on. give me a guy with experience, skills, (passing, vision, taking the body, and planting his big butt in front of the net) anyday! sure you have to rebuild...but give me a break!
GM at least 10. Why does that matter in this discussion?
Kyle, I hear you bud. Just not sure this player does anything on that list. His +/- call into question whethr or not he has skills as a defenseman especially when you compare it to the rest of the team. His passing skills are average which may be an improvement over who just retired. He will clear out the front of the Komets net. Now where are they going to find a Mac type to stand in front of the opposing net and take the abuse needed to score.
Goalies in this league with the exception of Boucher opening night are good enough to stop the first shot most of the time. Goals are scored on rebounds and deflections. Last year this team didn't have much of a presence ready to pick up the garbage and put it into the net.
Saturday should be very interesting whether Henley plays or not. The bottom line is this team needs to step up. David Franke can't keep going to the past after every loss for help. The guys that are here now need to handle their business.
Sadly work calls so I can't be on here all day today. Catch up with you cats tomorrow. I have a bucket nearby for all the rocks thrown at me that the scroll button on my mouse doesn't pass by.
Blake go ahead and back your friend....it is all good. LOL
Only player I have nailed is Warner. And I was in the ultra majority on that one.
There is no reason to nail Henley at this point. You admitted that last night.
So take your sides.
I am an idiot and Moran. Fine by me.
Snuff, Just seems like you haven't seen very many games in person with Henley on the ice which affects your view of his skill set and you're talking blind. You'd think a sponsor would make it to more than 10 games in 2 years.
I think once the team gets on the same page they will be real good but with that said we need a new power play system ours dont work and we do need to get someone in front of the net the goalies get way to many good looks at the puck coming into them most of the time right in the chest.
Awww.. Poor Snuffy. Lets all put rocks in his bucket..
Snuff since its almost Halloween ill put a candy bar in your bucket. ONLY if you appraise Hits new found cards.......
Blake, I'm going to echo another blogger by repeating a question he asked. With the additions of Lovell and Henley, can you name for me the other veterans currently on this roster? I'm thinking that the Komets may be over the "veterans" limit, but I don't know for sure. Thanks in advance.
To BluelineBaby, I'd like to put out this plea: please don't stop blogging because of the turmoil yesterday. I, for one, would miss your contributions.
BLB loves us too much to leave. ;-)
Completely agree, Reiterfan. The powerplay here has been terrible for years. It worked in spurts in the old IHL, but it didn't all last year and, if it doesn't change, won't this year. If I were other teams, I wouldn't be afraid of taking chances committing penalties because you'd know the Komets aren't going to score on you during the powerplay. Heck, you'll probably even get a shorthanded goal.
Vets: Chaulk, Smith, Thomas, Bennefield, Lovell, Henley
Rules state 5 vets plus one signed from previous year.
That would be 6 and fit the guys listed above.
My records indicate Milam is at 299 games. One short of being a vet.
Brutal !!!!
I hope so, JungleMonkey.
Last night, with the World Series being cancelled, on a whim, I shifted my attention to Comcast channel 55. I was so pleasantly surprised to watch Tim and Randy again as they replayed the March 3rd, 1993 game against Indianapolis. It was a stroll down memory lane seeing the Memorial Coliseum with a clean sheet of ice, the old wooden seats, Al Sims with hair, and the eventual Turner Cup Champions. Boy did they look fast and skilled. They had some great players on that team and it seems that all of them knew their role and were willing to fulfill that role. The game apparently set a new IHL record as it was the 22nd or 23rd sellout for the year. Capacity was 8,103 at that time. At one point during the game , Randy even mentioned that it was too bad they couldn't do something with the building to add more seats. Of course it was just a passing thought, but how prophetic it turned out to be!
The broadcast had the BFT breaks between periods, commercials ( which were a scream to watch eighteen years later), the original "fan in the stand" with Mark Gavart, Twister, and young Elvis.
Indianapolis had some pretty good players also, but the game ended up Komets 7- Indianapolis 4. How fitting that at the end of the game Steve Fletcher was sent to the dressing room assessed five minutes for a fight.
Yes, the memories were terrific and flowing. So many things I had forgotten or just plain had taken for granted. There is a lesson to be learned, though, as we had Tim back then and now he is gone. I said a little prayer again for Tim as the broadcast drew to an end. His goal was to bring more awareness of Komet hockey, and to encourage people to attend the games. How I wish that Tim, again, could attend the games.
Yesterday wasn't a very good day on this blog. We're only here a short time and should try to do our best understanding other people's point of views and opinions.
I think if Tim was here he would echo that thought.
Frowdawg,
I watched a very interesting show last night about how Gutzon Borglum was a member of the KKK and how he put sentiments of it into his work out there in your neck of the woods. I study history quite a bit and never had known that previously.
Good post Alan. Henley will make the team better and win.
Didn't say you were an idiot... this time. Just said you were the pot calling the kettle black. SO BOTH OF YOU ARE WRONG! BWA, HA, HA! BWA HA HA!
Come on Blake give us an update does it look like a long shot for him to be in the line up saturday
One other thing this team needs to is check people wear them down last game we never really put anyone in the glass, sit hitting wear them down and make them work
Translation, reiterfan?
Even tho he doesn't count as a vet, Boucher makes 7 when thinking salary. And everyone who was on the protected list (can't remember who that was) is making at least what they made last season plus Milam. The cap could be in trouble!
Somebody has to go when Lovell comes and and another somebody when Henley comes in. So do you cut experience because we cant afford them or youth because we want the experience?
one other thing this team needs to do is check people wear them down. Last game we never really put anyone in the glass, start hitting and make the other team work. hope thats better lol
No problem with the salary cap at this time. Bouch gave an interviewthis summer indicating he took a cut this year. Guessing several others probably did also based on last season's performance. Frowdawg, not to worry; it is just that time of the month when ego's go all hormonal and "morans" beat their hairy chests.
Just going by memory but I thought a team could sign as many vets as they wish but could only dress X amount/game. (specific # as mention above) In regards to the salary cap I thought is was based on per week of the dressed players that counted. Everyone else is still paid but not counted against the cap. Sorry I don't have any documentation. Its probably easy to look up so feel free credit or discreditj
Wow I guess.Pure brutal here !!!
Boucher couldn't take a cut unless he wasn't on the protected list. Players on that list have to make at least as much as they made the last season. They can get a raise but the league wont let them take a cut.
Thats why I asked who was on the protected list. But I just found it. Frankie DeAngelis, Craig Cescon, and Dustin Molle, Artem Podshendyalov, Tab Lardner, and Kaleigh Schrock.
So maybe Boucher did take a cut but none of those guys took a cut to sign. Molle might have gotten a raise!
Bouch didn't take a cut, per se, but he got paid over the summer so maybe that lowered his overall payment.
