Rapid City gets All-Star Game

Central Hockey League (CHL) Commissioner Duane Lewis announced today that the reigning CHL Champion and Ray Miron Presidents' Cup holder Rapid City Rush and the city of Rapid City, South Dakota will host the 2011 Central Hockey League All-Star Game at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center Arena on Wednesday, January 12, 2011.

The Rush and head coach Joe Ferras (2010 CHL Coach of the Year) will form one team in the match-up and will be opposed by a team of CHL All-Stars comprised of players from the other 17 CHL member teams.

The only team that acknowledges the IHL on a website anymore is, you guessed it, the Komets.

Well, I shouldn't say ONLY team. Evansville does too, but it seems as though they are merely a puppet of the Komets, because if you look at their schedule on their website the games that are at the Komets are in Orange and Black. Hm. Coincidence?

Just sayin'.

Rob, keep in mind Ron Geary could probably buy both the Komets and the Coliseum if they were for sale, and pick up the Holiday Inn across the street just for the heck of it. :-)

I completely agree with your feelings about the all star game, if it isn't a true all star game then call it something else. Seems the CHL uses this format. Right now it's the only thing that makes me feel uncomfortable about the CHL and I don't know why. The idea just seems weird to me.

I'm willing to try anything after the last couple of all-star games I had to watch. You guys all get to leave after the second period, while Justin and I have to stay there until the bitter, boring end. There's actually a long history of having the host team play the all-stars. IHL did it with Muskegon in 1963, Fort Wayne in 1964, Toledo in 1965, Port Huron in 1966 and Dayton in 1967. I just hope they don't have to have at least one representative on each team.

I can be supportive of the CHL's version of the All-Star game. It makes sense if they want a competive game. As long as it is a team made up of the best players. Maybe have the players vote for who is the best. I see problems with that already since all the teams will not have seen each other to judge the competition. Neither will have the coaches or the media. I guess that only leaves the league leaders in stats. Unless somebody has a better idea. Knowing this blog there will be a boat load of ideas.

I am your man with the Card Board Cutouts. I still have the Chief in my basement. He is still GQ, and is coaching away down here. He still hasn't said a word.
