Tailing the Komets

Some more updates

``And we're starting to turn up the heat on a goalie or two,'' he said. ``Most of the talks we're having center around offensive forwards.''

As for the toughness factor, Franke said he thinks the Komets have enough with Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock, Craig Ceson, Dustin and Bryant Molle, rookie Stephon Thorne, defenseman Dave Starenky and rookie Adam Krug.

``If we're going to have a 10th forward tough guy it has to be somebody who can play,'' Franke said. ``I think we have enough toughness. We're not going to have a 6-5 goon who can't play because at the end of the day skill will win over toughness. We've got plenty right now and we still have two months before we play the first game.''

Franke said the Komets have not talked recently with free agent forward Justin Hodgman, and Komets coach Al Sims said he liked three players from last week's junior camp in Shelburne, Ontario. The Komets have invited forwards Fredric Korduner and Eric Yngwe, both from Sweden, to training camp.

They are also looking into inviting center Stanislav Dzakhov. Because he's only 18 years old, Dzakhov may be ineligible under CHL rules.

It would make games so much more fun this year.

Franke may want to rethink that comment with Sgori just signing in Eville. Eville putting together a well rounded team.

Good for them. It would be great for that community if they have something positive to rally around.

The Otters sure haven't given sports fans down there much to cheer about.

I love that Evansville signed Sgroi. That dude is 33 and has played for almost that many teams. He's obviously a good luck charm. Was Jason Simon busy? Goons should have an age limit. If you can't score and only fight, you're banned when you turn 30. It just gets sad watching these guys get their heads caved in for a living. Give me Schrock vs. DiPace anyday over the old goon nonsense.

Stu Grimson may be willing to take a break from singing Itsy Bitsy Spider to rejoin the Komets.

This particular thread, "Some more updates", sure has me confused.

Franke is quoted as saying they are concentrating on scoring forwards. I hope he is talking about proven scoring forwards and not a guy like Podshendialov. While Podshendialov could and probably will be one someday, I hope he is not counting on him for that role at this time. The K's need scoring, and not by players with the "potential" to score, but ones with a "history" of scoring.

Next, according to the thread, Franke says he thinks the Komets have enough of the "toughness factor". He lists these examples: Shrock, Cescon, D. Molle, B. Molle, Stephon Thorne, Dave Starenky, and Adam Krug. Is he implying that B. Molle, Stephon Thorne, Dave Starenky, and Adam Krug have made the club? Funny thing. I remember all the hype about being under contract or invited to training camp is no guarantee about making the team. Yet he lists four players who are rookies and makes it sound as if they have made the team.

Finally, and most frustrating of all, comes the news that Dzakhov may be ineligible ( under CHL rules) to attend camp because he is only 18 years old. They don't know the rules? They didn't check with the league before they went to the Ontario camp to observe his play or others his age? Geez.... he is the guy who I think I'd like to see out of the three players mentioned.

Speaking of Evansville, my good friend Jack called me yesterday and as we were talking about the schedule, teams, and league, he made a real good point about Evansville. The point was how Rich Krom is putting together a lot of "IHL" players on his squad. Didn't really work for the K's last year, did it? It will be interesting to see who Evansville sticks with and how they do.

Well tomorrow is Wednesday. The Komets have been announcing signings for the last 3 or 4. I wonder who if anyone they will announce tomorrow. Any ideas anybody? And good luck to O'Connor. Hated to see him go. Wouldn't have minded him back for another season. He was still fairly young and put up decent numbers. A coworker of mine is really bummed. He was his favorite player.

I think Sean, like many of his underachieving teammates, priced himself out of the market with his salary last season. Take a pay cut or move on....? Easy choice for most players.

Why should OC take a pay cut when PC has been granted a spot? Maybe OC should have brought a sponsor on board.

PC had a two year contract that the Komets said they would honor, correct?

Hit Somebody!!!
Tue, 08/16/2011 - 10:05pm

And that doesn't mean he will make the team, and there are no guarantees in Minor League Hockey.

Honestly, If you like PC or not....personally he is my Buddy...lol...but I hope he does make the team. Because if he does make this team fair and square it means he came into camp in great shape, is hungry to play, and might put up some big numbers like we have seen him do before.

If he puts up 25 goals and 30 assists, I would say he was worth his weight in gold. Those would be great numbers from him in this league and I think that would bode well for the Komets season.

PC will make the team whether he deserves to or not. We've seen this countless times before, and have heard before that "there are no guaranteed positions on this team" from the Frankes. Next thing you know, we're watching players drag across the ice for 3 months until it's convenient for them to put some effort out there. I'm not trying to sound like Snuff on this one, but I'm not really wanting to see him back after watching him coast 3/4 of last season.
